The AbMat belt squat cover eliminates the discomfort felt by many when the belt digs into your inner thighs and hips.
All it is, is a sleeve with a zipper and a thick inner pad but AbMat is known for their unique foam so I’m hoping this helps.
I’ll be testing this out with a dip belt so if it can soften a chain digging into my thighs, then I know it’s legit.
Let’s check it out!

The belt squat cover came in a bag like other small AbMat products I’ve tested (their Barbell Bomb came in a bag too).
A bag seems to work for AbMat because all of them have arrived without any damage.
The belt squat cover came folded in half without any damages to report.

What Is The AbMat Belt Squat Cover
The belt squat cover is a cushioned sleeve that reduces the digging discomfort felt when doing belt squats.
To give you a perspective on how the belt squat cover fits me in the picture above, I’m a size 32 waist.
If you’re not familiar with AbMat, they make super comfortable foam products for the home gym so I’m hoping this gets the job done.
And this is what it looks like from the back.
The zipper is on the back and the 1/2″ thick foam sits on the inside between the belt and my body.
How I Tested The AbMat Belt Squat Cover
I couldn’t think of anything that would dig deeper into my thighs than the chain on a dip belt, so that’s what I used.
Here’s the dip belt with the belt squat cover on.
I don’t own a dedicated belt squat machine so I’m testing this with a makeshift belt squat hack.
My set up includes a combination of the Freak Athlete Hyper Pro and the Voltra cable machine.
Here’s what it looks like up close.
I have the Voltra’s cable coming straight out into a pulley that’s connected to the Hyper Pro.
Then I pull the cable straight up and clip it to my dip belt.
This way I’m getting true vertical resistance, not at an angle like when using a lever arm belt squat attachment.
I tested the dip belt in the belt cover with about 130 lbs of resistance.
With belt squats, the weight feels heavier than when doing back squats so I didn’t max out.
I felt the pressure of the chains on my inner thighs but it was not painful.
So the belt squat cover passed the test!
Top Benefits Of The AbMat Belt Squat Cover
Eliminates Discomfort
The cover is long and wide enough to go around my 32” waist and covers enough of the chain so I can do belt squats without any pain.
Best Features Of The AbMat Belt Squat Cover
Inner Padding
When I open up the cover, you can see the rectangular padding that takes up the entire back side of the sleeve.
Having that 1/2″ pad on the inside definitely makes a huge difference.
Stitched Ends
The belt squat cover has stitched ends so in case the zipper were to fail, the sleeve stays around the belt at all times.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Padding: Feels very comfortable even when using a chain dip belt with heavy loads
- Zipper: Zipper keeps the sleeve shut at all times so the cover does not come off
- Durable: So far the neoprene has not had any damage after 4 months of use and continues to show no sign of tearing
- Stitched ends: Keep the cover from opening up and falling off the belt while in use
- Value: For $65, I think this is well worth the price of not having a belt or chain dig into my thighs
Cons
- Length: This comes in one size only so for people with bigger waists, the cover may not big long enough to protect the inner thighs
AbMat Belt Squat Cover Price
The belt squat cover’s price is $65 which I think is very fair for the amount of comfort it gives me.
One of the main competitors to this belt cover sells for $140 so this should be well within most people’s budgets.

Spud Inc Pillow Belt Squat Belt
The Spud Inc Pillow Belt Squat Belt is the closest thing to the AbMat belt squat cover because of its thick padding on the inside.
It’s 36″ long so it’s shorter than AbMat’s and has 7 adjustment loops spaced 2″ apart.
My Experience Using The AbMat Belt Squat Cover
Keep in mind that it is a fixed length and I haven’t had anyone with a bigger waist test it along with me.
So I’m giving you my experience based on my 32″ waist size.
I’ve tested it with a dip belt, a split squat belt, and with a landmine set up.
All felt comfortable and allowed me to do heavy belt squats without any pain or discomfort.
Conclusion: Is The AbMat Belt Squat Cover Worth it?
If you do belt squats frequently and hate the belt digging into your thighs, the belt squat cover is worth every penny.
It’s wide enough to fit any belt you use and the 1/2″ thick pad makes a huge difference when you do heavy belt squats.
