The Athlete Kit comes in a small rectangular box, nicely wrapped in plastic bag.
Inside the bag you have the sandbag, 2 filler bags, registration information, and instructions to fill the bag.
The sandbag DOES NOT come with any filler material otherwise the shipping cost would be insane.
But don’t you worry… keep on reading and I’ll show you the sandbag filler I use.
Once you take it out of the packaging, you can see the Brute Force logo on the top of the sandbag.
Brute Force Sandbag Specs
Brute Force sandbags are made of 1000D Military-Spec Cordura.
You get 4 sets of flexible, soft grip handles (8 in total).
Two neutral grips, two barbell grips, two suitcase grips, and two end cap grips.
The handles are also made of Cordura fabric so they can handle the beating.
The handles connect to the bag via a 5 panel webbing seatbelt material.
As you can see from the close up picture, there’s a lot of detail put into the stitching.
The seatbelt strap is then triple reinforced into the sandbag in a Box X stitching pattern.
Which means it’s gonna take A LOT to rip these suckers off the bag.
Brute Force uses quality materials all around, including the zipper.
YKK zippers are as tough as they come and they’re built for heavy use.
Dimensions and Colors
The Athlete Sandbag is 30″ x 13″ when the outer shell is stretched.
It comes in a ton of colors and combinations which you can see on their site.
Filler Bags
The Athlete Kit comes with 2 filler bags: One of them holds up to 30 lbs and the other holds up to 50 lbs.
If you’re planning to buy a Brute Force sandbag and don’t have filler bags, make sure you click on “Inner Fillers Included” on their website.
This way you make sure you’re getting the whole kit, not just the outer shell.
Each sandbag comes with military grade double velcro so that nothing spills out.
On the outside you have a flap that velcros down to the bag.
And on the inside of the bag you have another set of velcro straps.
Once you fill it up, press the opening of the bag together to seal it shut.
Then fold the outside flap down and press it tightly for the second velcro seal.
If you use sand as a filler, make sure you clean it off the velcro so that it sticks well.
Each filler bag has a red tab stitched to the side.
This is the DO NOT FILL PAST THIS LINE tab.
Make sure you leave the rest of the bag empty above this red tab.
This will make sure your sandbag remains an unstable load as intended.
How to Fill Sandbag
When choosing a sandbag filler, you have several options and you can find these at any hardware store.
You can go with play sand, pea pebbles, rubber mulch, rice, or steel pellets.
I always go with pea pebbles because they’re not as messy as sand and each 50 lbs bag is $3.98.
Extremely cheap and works amazingly well with sandbags.
You’ll find these bags in the gardening section of hardware stores so they tend to get wet.
I spread the pebbles out on a towel and let them dry out for about a day before I put them in the filler bags.
Once they’re dry, just use your hands or a cup to fill the bags up to the red tab.
Inserting Filler Bags Into Outer Shell
Now that both filler bags are filled, it’s time to put them inside the outer shell.
Place the fullest filler bag into the bottom of the bag first.
Then shake the bag up and down until the pebbles (or sand) spread evenly.
Repeat with the other filler bag, stacking it on top of the other bag.
Now close the zipper and tuck it in so it’s not in the way and you’re ready to work!
Sandbag Training
The Brute Force sandbag is built for intermediate to advanced sandbag training and is geared towards functional strength and conditioning.
And even though 25 to 75 lbs of weight doesn’t seem like a lot, remember this is not solid weight.
The weight shifts when you lift it so you have an unstable load which makes you work harder.
This sandbag functions best between 25 lbs and 60lbs.
Any less and it is too empty, any more and it lessens the shifting load of the sand.
This is the sweet spot for max weight and max shift which is the whole point of sandbag training!
Brute Force Sandbag Workouts
Brute Force also hooks you up with a training app where they post daily workout videos.
They call them sandWOD’s.
Short for sandbag wod (workout of the day).
These workouts come straight out of the Brute Force ULOO™ Unstable Load and Odd Object Training Methodology.
You can download the app by searching for “UR Brute Force” on the Apple Store or Google Play Store.
Other Brute Force Sandbags
Brute Force sells sandbags of all sizes.
In the picture above, the small one in front is called the Brute Force Mini.
The Mini can be filled from 5 to 25 lbs.
Here you can see the Mini (bottom), Athlete (middle), and the Strongman (top).
The Strongman sandbag can be filled from 50 – 125 lbs!
They also have kettlebell sandbags which have quickly become my favorite.
You can use these as both kettlebells and sandbags!
The kettlebells come in three sizes and are built with the same quality as the sandbags.
Only difference is that they only have one handle.
You can read my in-depth kettlebell sandbag review here.

Overall I’m very happy with the Brute Force Athlete Kit.
