The Century Wavemaster XXL punching bag is massive, hence the XXL behind its name.
It is a free standing punching bag so you can move it around all over your home gym.
That is something I really like about the Wavemaster XXL because I put it in the middle of my garage gym and go around it from all angles.
When I’m done, I can shove it into a corner and out of the way.
What’s Included
There’s only 3 things that come with the Wavemaster XXL…
The punching bag, a base, and a lock nut.
One side of the bag shows its name.
The other side is blank.
The Wavemaster XXL’s massive size lets you practice a huge variety of strikes.
From low kicks, to kidney punches, knees, elbows, head kicks, and everything in between.
Specs
- Punching bag: 52″ tall x 18″ in diameter
- Total height: When locked to the base, the XXL stands at 69″ tall
- Base: 28″ diameter
- Base weight: Weighs up to 270 lbs and can be filled with sand or water
Century XXL Training Bag
The Century Wavemaster XXL’s striking area is made of high density foam covered by vinyl.
The vinyl is tough…
You’ll get scratches on it eventually but I still haven’t been able to tear into it.
The bottom of the punching bag is made of hard plastic and has a screw-like design to it.
This piece fits right into the center of the base and screws right into a lock nut to secure it in place.
Base
The base can be filled with sand or water.
I use water in mine because it was easier to stick a hose in the hole than to manually scoop sand into it.
Sand would probably make the base heavier but water works fine for my workouts.
Emptying it is also easier with water than with sand.
In the middle of the base you have the opening where the punching bag will sit.
On one of the sides, you have the hole to fill up the base.
Lock Nut
The lock nut is made of hard plastic and goes right under the base.
It sits flat on the floor and stays in place once the base is on top of it.
You then stick the XXL punching bag through the center of the base and twist the bag clockwise to tighten it to the base.
Do the opposite to remove the bag from the base.
Right tighty, lefty loosey.
Once you screw the punching bag base to the lock nut, it’s not going anywhere.
Here’s a close up of the lock nut, base, and punching bag’s bottom all fitting together like a puzzle.
This helps to keep the punching bag upright and gives it stability.
Padding
The high density foam padding is thick and gives you a lot of hand protection.
It gives a little bit when you strike it but not a lot to where it feels like it gives too much.
Vinyl Cover
The outer cover of the training bag is made of a durable vinyl.
The stitching is also tough.
Me and my kid have beat it up repeatedly and it gets scratched, but no tears yet.
Free Standing Punching Bag
Like other Wavemaster bags, the XXL is easy to move and relocate.
Just tip it onto the edge of the base and rotate to roll (trust me, it’s a lot easier than you’d think).
This design makes it ideal for use in home and apartment use because it’s not locked in to one location.
I roll mine into a corner and park my car inside the garage when I’m done working out.
In the video above I’m working out with the Century Wavemaster XXL and Cobra reflex bag.
Wavemaster XXL Pros & Cons
Pros
- Mobile: no need to drill holes anywhere to hang it, move it when you’re done working out

- Fillable base: base can be filled up to 270 lbs making it very sturdy even with hard kicks and punches
- 360 angles: free standing bag lets you work around it
Cons
- Expensive: the Wavemaster XXL is Century Martial Arts’ biggest punching bag so it is the most expensive at $400
Century Wavemaster XXL Review
Overall I’m happy with the Wavemaster XXL.
Punching and kicking a bag is a hell of stress reliever and this bag has done a good job.
It’s easy to fill up with sand or water.
Big enough to cover low kicks, high kicks, and anything in between.
And after I’m done working out I can just move it out of the way so it’s not taking up my space.
