The Delta Onyx bumper plates are budget bumper plates made from high quality virgin rubber.
After talking with Delta Fitness’ owner, he actually gets these from the same factory where Rogue makes their bumpers so the quality is up there.
And with a price point of a $1/lbs and 3 year warranty, these bumpers may be worth trying out.
Let’s check them out!

I got the 260 lbs set which comes with 5 pairs of plates.
Each thick plate comes in its individual box and they are sealed with tape and two criss crossing poly cord straps so they’re not going anywhere.
The 10 lbs and 15 lbs pairs each come in one box since they’re thinner.
Once I took them all out of the box, each one came wrapped in a plastic bag.
There is a slight rubber smell to them but not as bad as stall mats and other bumper plates i’ve tested.
And here they are out of the bags…
After a couple of days the smell was gone.
I work out from a garage gym with my doors open and fans blowing so tbe slight smell didn’t bother me at all.
Specs
- Material: Virgin rubber with stainless steel inserts
- Diameter: 450mm (17.71″)
- Weight tolerance: +/- 1%
- Durometer rating: 88
- Width: Varies by plate ( see table below)
What Are The Delta Onyx Bumper Plates?
Onyx bumper plates are made by Delta Fitness and designed for performance without breaking the bank.
Made out of virgin rubber with stainless steel inserts, these bumpers have a weight tolerance of +/- 1% so they’re very accurate.
Delta even made their 10 lbs plates 1″ thick to prevent them from damaging so they’re slightly thicker than what other brands sell.
These are perfect for power lifting, Olympic lifting, and CrossFit.
Bumper Plates Sets
Delta lets you buy pairs of bumper plates a la carte and you can also buy them in sets.
I have the 260 lbs set which is what’s on the bar in the pic above.
Here’s a list of all the plate sets they sell and the plates they come with:
- 160 lbs – One pair of 45s, 25s, 10s
- 190 lbs – One pair of 45s, 25s, 15s, 10s
- 230 lbs – One pair of 45s, 35s, 25s, 10s
- 250 lbs – Two pairs of 45s, one pair of 25s, 10s
- 260 lbs – One pair of 45s, 35s, 25s, 15s, 10s (this is what I have)
- 340 lbs – Three pairs of 45s, one pair of 25s, 10s
How Wide Are Delta Onyx Bumper Plates?
See the chart below for the exact width of each bumper plate.
One thing I really like, is that the 10 lbs plates are 1″ thick so they’re not gonna bend easily (I’ll go in more detailed about this…keep reading)
| Bumper Plate Weight | Width |
| 10 lbs | 1″ |
| 15 lbs | 1.35″ |
| 25 lbs | 1.73″ |
| 35 lbs | 2.40″ |
| 45 lbs | 2.86″ |
When compared to XMaster’s competition bumper plates, the Onyx 45 lbs bumpers are wider by just over half an inch (2.86″ vs 2.32″).
At this thickness, I’d be able to fit five 45 lbs plates on each side of an Olympic barbell.
So for most people who don’t lift over 500 lbs, these bumpers will work.
Here’s what the 260 lbs set looks like on one side.
I still have plenty of room to add more bumpers.

Top Benefits Of The Delta Onyx Bumper Plates
Dead Bounce
Delta Onyx bumpers are made of 100% virgin rubber which is a high density rubber known for having a low dead bounce.
This means they absorb the impact when dropped and don’t bounce high. But why does dead bounce matter?
Dead bounce minimizes the force transferred to the barbell, collars, and the floor, so it decreases the direct impact on them.
But more importantly, the bar and plates won’t rebound forcefully, preventing the lifter or anyone around from getting hit.
Budget Bumper Plates
Compared to other bumper plates made out of virgin rubber with stainless steel inserts and the same low dead bounce, these have the best price at a $1/lbs.
Aside from the 10 lbs and 15 lbs plates, all bumpers have a 3 year warranty so that gives me plenty of time to abuse them.
The 10s and 15s have a 6 month warranty.
Best Features Of The Delta Onyx Bumper Plates
Materials
The bumpers are made of virgin rubber.
This is is high density rubber made to last and take on the impact when weights are dropped.
With that being said, I wouldn’t use these bumpers on asphalt or gravel because they’d get chewed up.
These are best for indoor use.
The center inserts are made of stainless steel so they won’t rust in humid environments.
Stainless steel is also more durable than other materials like brass so this helps to decrease wear and tear so the plates last longer.
If you’re like me and mainly do bodybuilding type exercises, this won’t make much of a difference.
This matters most for people who do CrossFit or Olympic lifting and are constantly dropping weights.
Wide Light Plates
Delta made their 10 lbs plates slightly wider than the norm.
To give you a point of reference, Rogue Echo 10 lbs bumper plates are 0.83″ wide.
An inch is not that much wider but it’s enough to make them more robust and add to their longevity.
And of course, I had to measure them and sure enough, they’re right on the 1″ mark.
This is similar to what Rep Fitness did with their black bumper plates.
The added width keeps the dimes from bending easily which is a common problem among thin bumper plates.
Delta Onyx Bumper Plates Pros & Cons
Pros
- Material: Made of 100% virgin rubber for durability (stronger than recycled and crumb rubber)
- 10 lbs plates: 1″ 10 lbs plates don’t bend easily when used by themselves
- Dead bounce: Because of the virgin rubber and stainless steel inserts, these have a low dead bounce
- Versatile: I can use these for any style of training – weight training, Olympic lifting, CrossFit, Hyrox, etc.
- Price: Sold for $1/lbs which is excellent quality makes these budget bumper plates super affordable
- Warranty: 3 year warranty for most plates. 10 lbs and 15 lbs plates have a 6 month warranty.
Cons

Rogue Echo Bumper Plates V2
Rogue considers their Echo bumpers a “budget-friendly” bumper plate.
When I looked at their website, the 260 lbs set sell for $583 which is more than double what Delta charges for theirs.
The Rogue Echo bumper plates are made of virgin rubber with stainless steel inserts, have a diameter of 450mm, and a weight tolerance of 1%.
With a durometer rating of 88, they have a low dead bounce and durability rarely seen in an economical plate.
Fringe Sport Black Bumper Plates
The Fringe Sport 260 lbs black bumper plates set sells for $459 which is more affordable than Rogue’s but still $200 more than Delta’s.
These are also made with virgin rubber with stainless steel inserts giving them a low dead bounce and durability.
One thing that makes these stand out from many bumpers in the market, is their lifetime warranty.
My Experience Using The Delta Onyx Bumper Plates
I mostly follow a push, pull, legs training program so most weight dropping I do comes from deadlifting.
But twice a week I still work on explosive exercises like power snatches so I do let the bumpers drop from a decent heigh to protect my shoulders.
Love the dead bounce and so far they’ve held up really well.
Are The Delta Onyx Bumper Plates Worth It?
I feel the Delta Onyx bumpers are very worth it at $1 a pound, free shipping, and a 3 years warranty.
They’re made of durable, virgin rubber and stainless steel inserts.
These are best for people who constantly drop weights: Olympic lifters and CrossFitters but can be used by anyone regardless of training style.
With that being said, I wouldn’t use these outdoors on asphalt or gravel or they will get eaten up quick.
If you’re in the hunt for high quality, budget bumpers, these are worth a shot.
