In this Freak Athlete Atom cable machine preview, I’ll give you an inside look at the collaboration between Freak Athlete and Maiak.

Maiak initially teased the Maiak Go on their Instagram account.

They even started taking pre-order deposits for an April 15, 2025 launch.

But then nothing happened for a while…

They even showed clips of Larry from Bulletproof Fitness testing their unit but apparently it wasn’t a good fit at the time.

Enter Freak Athlete

Out of nowhere, Freak Athlete has agreed on a partnership with Maiak.

The Maiak Go will now be known as the Freak Athlete Atom.

Since Freak Athlete is already an established company with manufacturing and distribution centers in different parts of the world, this makes sense.

They tap into a successful company’s existing infrastructure to cut down on mistakes and produce their product at scale.

I’m excited to see how this compares to the Beyond Power Voltra I since it currently doesn’t have any competition.

If it’s just as good and has similar features, it may force Beyond Power to compete in price.

Compact Design

From videos I’ve watched, it looks like the Freak Athlete Atom fits in the size of my hand.

This goes in line with other rack attached cable machines I’ve tested and this compact size is one of the benefits of these rack attachments…

I get the same benefits of using full sized cable machine (and more) without eating up a ton of my garage gym floor space.

Weight Range

what's the weight range on the freak athlete atom cable machine

The weight range is 7 to 220 lbs which is 20 lbs higher than the Voltra.

I imagine this is on a 1:1 ratio which is more than enough for most exercises.

For compound exercises like lat pulldowns, seated rows, etc, having two units would be more beneficial.

Mounting Options

According to Freak Athlete, the Atom has the ability to mount on your rack, wall, and platforms.

They haven’t shown any specific mounts but I’m sure they’ll come out with similar ones to the Voltra and maybe even some new ones I haven’t seen.

Training Modes

The beauty about smart cable machines like the Atom, is that I can choose from multiple resistance curves.

I can get the normal constant resistance, increase the eccentric load, do drop sets, and some others Freak Athlete hasn’t announced.

Safety Mechanism

The Atom has implemented a safety mechanism where it will detect lack of motion in one spot for a few seconds.

It will interpret this as you being stuck and will automatically decrease the resistance to 10 kg.

I can see this being useful to avoid injuries in the case I get stuck and the cable retracts violently.

Freak Athlete Atom Price

There’s no final price set in stone at the moment but Freak Athlete expects the price for a base unit to be in the range of $999 – $1199.

And if you buy two units, they’ll offer a discount.

It’s not stated whether this will include a base mount or if that will be sold separately.

From the looks of it, this makes each unit much more affordable than the Voltra so I’m curious to see what Beyond Power does (if anything).
