The Freak Athlete Tri Flexor is a hybrid of a couple of pieces of equipment that work the lower body unilaterally.
It’s a combination of an IsoTib and MonkeyFeet in one piece of equipment.
These unilateral pieces of equipment have become very popular lately especially with Knees Over Toes programs.
They’re versatile, don’t take up much room, and cost way less than stand alone machines.
In this review, I’ll break down everything you need to know about the Tri Flexor.
Unboxing
When I first saw the Freak Athlete Tri-Flexor, it reminded me of an orthopedic boot.
Not the prettiest looking piece of equipment but for me it’s all about how it works not how it looks.
Inside the box there’s a steel boot, three detachable weight sleeves, two rubber spacer circles, and a strap.
I’ll break down each piece in detail so you can see how they work.
Tri-Flexor Boot
The Tri Flexor boot is made of solid steel and secures to each foot like a sandal.
On each side there’s a place to screw on weight sleeves.
The bottom also has a hole to screw on the longest weight sleeve for tib bar exercises.
Towards the back there’s a cylinder like piece of metal and that’s used as a pivot.
I’ll show more of how that works later on.
I zoomed in here to show you that slot right above the circle.
That slot is there for the strap that’s included.
The strap is used to assist heavy eccentric tib raises (I’ll show you more later on).
And here’s what the Tri Flexor boot looks like facing it from front to back.
The back of the boot has a detachable pad.
The nylon strap passes through a few slots then velcros down in the back.
Here’s that cylinder piece in the back of the boot.
I’ll show you how to use this in a second.
Now that I’ve shown you everything about the boot, I’ll show you how I strap it to my foot.
Strapping The Tri-Flexor To My Foot
The Tri-Flexor fits just like a sandal.
You have crossing straps on top of the foot that can be loosened or tightened.
The back has a heal pad that velcros to the strap.
Here’s a bird’s eye view of the straps on top of the foot.
The boot can be used on either foot.
Weight Sleeves
There’s two side sleeves and one front sleeve.
I like that they’re chrome to prevent them from getting all scratched up.
The longest sleeve goes in the front for tib raises.
On the top of each one they added branded Freak Athlete end caps.
On the bottom they have a built-in bolt that screws on to the boot.
Tib Raises
I added the front sleeve to the Tri-Flexor and this is how it looks.
Here’s what it looks like with my foot strapped down and the tib sleeve on.
And here it is with a weight plate on.
Once it’s strapped down all I have to do is hang my foot off the edge of a bench for some tib raises.
Another way I can do tib raises is by using the pivot point at the end of the Tri-Flexor.
Right here I’m standing on the edge of the Slant Board Guy step up board.
The pivot point gives me stability so I can just focus on moving the foot up and down.
It really isolates the tibialis anterior muscle.
Here’s what it looks like with my foot down.
And here it is when I lift my foot contracting the tibialis anterior.
I think of this pivot point like a preacher curl bench.
It pins me down so I can’t cheat the reps.
Heavy Eccentric Tib Raises
Now I’m gonna show what this slot at the front of the Tri-Flexor is for.
This is where this strap come in.
Insert the strap through the slot and secure it down with its buckle.
Now you can work on heavy eccentric tib raises.
Add more weight to the front sleeve, lower the weight slowly, then pull it back up with the strap.
The goal with heavy eccentric exercises is to get stronger.
Here’s what it looks like from my point of view.
So that covers everything for tib raises.
Now I’m going to show you how the side sleeves go on for all other leg exercises.
Side Sleeves
Here’s what the Tri-Flexor looks like with the side sleeves on.
When I’m not doing tib raises I remove the front sleeve.
You might be wondering what those rubber circles on the sleeves are for.
Those rubber circles are spacers so that weight plates don’t get in the way of tightening and loosening the straps.
Here’s a view from the top with the side sleeves on.
After adding weights to the side sleeves I just clamp them down.
The Tri-Flexor doesn’t include the clamps, I just used some that I already owned.
If you don’t have any, Freak Athlete gives you the option to get some when ordering the Tri-Flexor.
Here’s a bird’s eye view with my foot strapped down.

Tib raises for the tibialis anterior.
I alternate doing these with my foot hanging off the edge of a bench or using the pivot point.
Knee raises to strengthen the hip flexors.
Standing leg curls to strengthen the hamstrings.
An alternative to standing leg curls would be using doing Nordic curls on a machine like the Freak Athlete Hyper Pro where you can do two legs at time.
Leg extensions to strengthen the quadriceps.
Freak Athlete also just recently added a leg developer to the Hyper Pro for leg extensions.
Other exercises include hanging knee raises, donkey kick backs, hip abductions, ankle inversion, ankle eversion, ankle circles, hip internal and external rotation exercises.

Freak Athlete Essentials Tri Flexor Review
I like the idea behind the Tri-Flexor.
One tool to isolate and strengthen the ankles and entire lower body.
Is it weird looking? Yes but who cares? I certainly don’t.
Does it work well to isolate the lower body? Absolutely!
Freak Athlete nailed its functions and I’m sure they’ll keep improving this product with feedback from their users.
