The Freak Athlete Multi Step is an adjustable step up box designed for Knees Over Toes Guy exercises.
If you’re unfamiliar with Knees Over Toes, they use different heights to increase and decrease exercise intensity.
Multi Step boxes stack vertically so these two boxes can be used at three different heights.
Let’s check it out!
UPDATE
Table of Contents
Freak Athlete has updated their Multi Step step up box and slant board.
They are now called the Multi Step Pro and Slant Board Pro.
Below I’m showing you what’s been updated.
I’m leaving my original post so you can see how they’re evolving and making their products better.
New Multi Step Pro
Instead of 2 boxes, there are now 3 boxes each with a top layer of grip tape.
The original Multi step up boxes were textured but not as grippy as the new design.
The sides of the the new step up boxes now have handles which makes it easy to separate them from each other.
The bottom of the new design has blocks on each corner of the first and second box.
These fit like Lego pieces into 4 corner slots at the top of the second and third box.
When I stack these up on top of each other, they feel really stable and don’t move at all.
New Slant Board Pro
The new Freak Athlete Slant Board Pro also has been upgraded with grip tape on the top vs a textured surface.
It has a 30 degree angle with an 800 lbs weight capacity.
Dimensions are 20″ L x 12″ D x 6 H”.
The backside has a handle now.
It can be used in combination with the Multi Step Pro for Poliquin reverse step ups.

Unboxing (Original Post)
The Multi Step came in two pieces stacked on top of each other.
Now it’s time to pull them out.
And here’s what the Multi Step step up box looks like out of the packaging.
I really like the black textured rubber lining they added to the top and around the boxes.
Here’s a closer look at the rubber lining.
I also like that they use screws to hold the boards together instead of nails or glue.
The top and bottom box stack perfectly on top of each other.
Top box is 2″ tall and the bottom is 4″ tall.
So I can use these individually as 2″ (thinner box), 4″ (thicker box), or 6″ (both boxes stacked).
On the side of the 4″ box there’s a handle to make it easy to lift off the floor.
Now I’ll show you each step up box individually.
This is the 4″ box by itself.
As you can see there’s a smaller board screwed to the top and it’s designed this way so the 2″ board can stack on top like a puzzle.
The smaller board on top prevents the 2″ board from sliding around.
The bottom of the 4″ step up box is hollow and painted black.
And here’s the 2″ box right next to the 4″.
And of course, the bottom of the 2″ box is also hollow so that it fits on top of the 4″ box.

Stackable Design Saves Space
I’ve reviewed other step up boxes like the Slant Board Guy’s that you see above and as you can tell, it takes up more space.
The board is well built and has a rough grip tape which I like.
But the boxes are stuck to each other so it takes up more space when it’s not in use.
For space saving sakes, I really like the stackable design on the Freak Athlete Multi Step boards.
Knees Over Toes Guy Exercises
Here’s the 2″ step up box while I’m doing reverse step ups.
I have decent ankle mobility at this height so I can keep my foot flat.
But as I stack the boxes up, I usually throw the Freak Athlete slant board on top to reduce the load on my ankle.
If you have ankle restriction issues, you can throw the slant board on top of the 2″ box like I show above.
The slant board is sold separately by Freak Athlete but it can be bundled since it compliments the Multi Step well.
In the pic above I have both boxes stacked up for a deeper reverse step up.
And again, I’m using the slant board cause you really need good ankle mobility at this height.
I also like using the Multi Step up boards for other exercises like deficit deadlifts, belt squats, and anything that requires height.
Freak Athlete Slant Board
Since I mentioned the slant board, I might as well show you what else I do with it.
I can do reverse step ups on it also.
This set up is good is you really lack ankle mobility and it hurts to do them on the 2″ Multi Step up board.
Heel elevated squats or cyclist squats are a staple for me to focus on the quads.
ATG split squats can be done on here with or without the step up boxes.
Without the Multi Step up boxes this requires more hip flexor flexibility.
I can use it for calf and hamstrings stretch combo.
This set up also makes it possible to do Jefferson curls.

Multi Step Pros & Cons

- Non-slip: Textured rubber surface grips your shoes and feet to prevent slipping
- Sturdy: 500 lbs weight capacity
- Versatile: I can use this for deficit deadlifts, step ups, reverse step ups, ATG split squats, Jefferson curls, and more

Cons
I can’t think of anything that I can be picky about.
It’s well built and gets the job done.

Freak Athlete Multi Step Review
I dig the Freak Athlete Multi Step for several reasons.
Two boxes stack on top of each other to get three heights so I can progress/regress as needed.
And they’re not a one trick pony.
I can do a lot combining the Multi step boxes and slant board.
They’re sturdy, well built, and effective.
