Garage gym mirrors are a great accessory to add to your home or garage gym for the sake of checking your form.
But they can also serve as motivation to see your progress.
Everyone’s flexed in front of a mirror at some point so don’t be ashamed.
Besides, it’s your home gym. You make the rules.
But mirror options are vast and they can range from free all the way to commercial gym grade.
In this post I’ll give you the best options so you can decide what’s best for your garage gym.
FREE Mirrors
Table of Contents
If you don’t want to spend any money on gym mirrors, you have a few options.
You can either look on Craigslist or use Facebook marketplace.
You might not specifically find a gym mirror but beggars can’t be choosers.
Craigslist Gym Mirrors
If you choose to go with Craigslist, you’ll need to look in the “For Sale” section, then click on “Free”.
Then do a search for mirrors and see what’s available.
You might just get lucky and find some freebies you can throw up on your home gym wall.
But there’s also the possibility that you might not find anything you like and you might have to keep checking back.
Facebook Marketplace
You can do a similar search on Facebook.
Go to Facebook Marketplace.
Enter your city, mile radius, and sort by lowest price.
Then type “free mirror” in the search bar and test your luck.
Again, you may have to keep checking back if you wanna go the freebie route.
Cheap Home Gym Mirrors
One step above the freebie route is the framed door mirror.
You can find these for less than $10 at Target or Walmart.
Go to their sites and search for “framed door mirror”.
Put enough of these side by side and you can DIY a large gym mirror.
You’ll have to put in the work to remove the frames from each mirror but it can be a fun project if you have some time.
Best Home Gym Mirror For Parents
So at this point we’re moving into a slightly higher price point for garage gym mirrors.
If you’re like me and have kids, you know they like to be around your garage gym because to them it looks like a playground.
Exibit A…
And if that’s the case, then this next mirror option is a safe one for the little ones.
I’m talking about glassless mirrors…
Glassless Garage Gym Mirrors
Glassless mirrors (aka acrylic mirrors) come in different sized sheets and are made of plastic.
They’re half the weight of regular mirrors and more break resistant than glass.
This makes them easy to put up on walls without having to drill anything.
They are so light you can use velcro squares to hold them up.
One downside to this type of mirror is that it’s more flexible than glass.
So if you’re mounting large pieces on your garage wall, it can create image distortion.
This of course will depend on the size and thickness of the acrylic mirror you choose.
If you run into that problem, you can glue the glassless mirror to MDF (medium density fiberboard), which you can find at your local hardware store.
Just make sure you use mirror adhesive that’s made for acrylic mirrors.
The MDF will give the mirror a backbone and prevent it from bending and distorting your jacked physique.
Mirrors at Hardware Stores
Your local Home Depot and Lowe’s carry vanity mirrors that can be used in your garage gym.
These are much heavier than the mirrors we’ve looked at so far, so proper installation will be important.
Keep reading to learn how to install large mirrors on your walls.
Gym Mirrors at Home Depot
Home Depot has a mirror that is 3 feet wide by 5 feet tall for $55.
The mirror is 1/8″ thick and weighs 30 lbs so you have to make sure it’s anchored to your wall securely.
These mirrors come with the hardware included.
It comes with 6 screws and clear plastic clips.
Gym Mirrors at Lowe’s
Lowe’s carries a similar mirror with the same dimensions and price.
Their mirror weighs 48 lbs and does NOT come with the mounting hardware.
You’ll need to pick up some clips and screws and because it’s heavier, a J channel (also called J bar) to support the bottom.
Frameless Gym Mirrors With Safety Backing
If you want to go a step up and really make your garage gym look pro, this is your option.
This is a frameless mirror with safety backing.
Safety film backing strengthens the glass surface making it less susceptible to breakages.
They’re 4 feet wide by 7 feet tall so they’ll take up a lot of wall space.
These beasts weighs 125 lbs each so you’ll need some help installing them.
Hardware included: 4 mirror Clips, 60 inch J bar, screws for J Bar, and specialty mirror adhesive.
Shatterproof Gym Mirrors
Shatterproof garage gym mirrors are used in commercial gyms.
They’re constructed so that they don’t shatter when they are struck.
Shatterproof gym mirrors don’t use safety backing paper, the strength comes from within the mirror.
These are 3 feet wide by 6 feet tall.
Each gym mirror kit comes with everything you need to install the mirrors yourself, making it an easy DIY project.
Kits contain chrome mirror clips, J-bars for bottom support, and glass glue for adhering the mirrors to the wall.
Gym Mirror Installation
If you have a small mirror, installation is easy because you probably won’t have to worry about finding wall studs.
You can probably get away with using drywall anchors to hang your mirror.
If your mirror is big and heavy though, you have to anchor it down properly.
First find your wall studs with a stud finder and mark the spots on the wall with a pencil.
Use a level at the bottom to make a straight line so you know where the J bar will be.
Screw the J bar into the wall and place the mirror on it.
With the mirror against the wall, mark the top to know where to insert the holding clips.
If the mirror is really heavy, add mirror glue to the back of the mirror for additional support.
Best Mirror for Garage Gym
With garages being limited in space, choosing the best mirror for your garage gym will depend on your current set up.
But now you have several options.
I’ve shown you how to hunt for free ones.
You’ve seen cheap and kid friendly options.
And you also know about the mirrors that will make your garage look like a membership gym.
If you go with the heavy mirrors, just make sure you nail down the installation so you don’t end up with 7 years of bad luck.
