Gikpal Punching Bag Review

The Gikpal punching bag is a freestanding punching bag that won’t break the bank.

I’ve owned a few punching bags but none of them came as a total package.

This one comes with the punching bag, wrist wraps, and punching gloves so everything is included.

Let’s check it out!

Unboxing

This was delivered to me in two separate boxes since the punching bag and base are two large items.

Once I took everything out of the box, here’s what’s inside.

It brings the punching bag, a protection foam wrap for low kicks, punching gloves, and a round base with suction cups.

Specs

  • Dimensions: 20″ W x 67″ H
  • Weight: Around 180 lbs when filled with water, 205 lbs when filled with sand
  • Punching bag outer material: Faux leather
  • Base: Made out of hard plastic

Features

Base

The Gikpal punching bag’s base is around 20″ wide and is made of hard plastic.

I can fill it up with water or sand.

Although it takes longer to fill with sand, it will make the base heavier for better stability and less moving around.

Once I fill it up, I insert the rubber stopper into the hole to prevent anything from coming out.

Once I flipped it over on its side, I noticed there’s 12 place where I can screw on suction cups.

And that’s where these guys come in.

They have a male piece on the top that fits the holes on the base of the punching bag.

I screwed these on easily by turning them clockwise.

These work great on non-porous surfaces but no so much on my stall mats so I just took them off.

I set my Ringside reflex bag next to the Gikpal punching bag just to compare sizes and they take up about the same amount of space.

The reflex bag’s base (right) is a bit wider though which I like because it adds stability.

I feel a wider base like the 28″ base on my Century Wavemaster punching bag would be something Gikpal should look into.

That’ll help to prevent any tipping when the bag is hit with a lot of force.

Lower Foam Wrap

Right above the base there’s an area of exposed metal that connects the punching bag to the base.

This piece is about 8″ tall.

And that’s where this lower foam wrap comes in so I can kick low if I want to.

This also comes in handy when my daughter uses the punching bag since it’s down at her level.

Punching Bag

The punching bag is 46.5″ tall so I have a lot of room to throw punches and kicks.

It’s made out of faux leather which is good enough for me since I’ll be using it about twice a week.

If boxing was my main form of training and I did it with more frequency, then I’d go with leather.

Here’s what the top stitching and lacing looks like.

Gloves

Gikpal includes boxing gloves with the bag and I like it because I just made one purchase for the whole package.

I’m not sure what the outside material of the gloves is made of.

And here’s what the underside looks like.

Here you can see the stitching and some air holes so that my hands don’t sweat so much.

Wrist Wraps

I like that Gikpal included wrist wraps especially for beginners that plan to use the bag consistently.

Your wrists take a beating with repeated punching so having your wrists wrapped gives you support.

This is something I went through when I got my first punching bag and later realized how helpful wraps can be.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Freestanding: I didn’t have to drill or hang anything to get started
  • Mobile: I can set it in the middle of my garage gym when in use, then move it out of the way into a corner to save space
  • Suction cups: Suction cups give it more stability when using it on a non-porous surface
  • Family friendly: It’s padded from the bottom to the top so my kids and I can use it
  • Inexpensive: At less than $150, this is a great deal since it comes with gloves too

Cons

  • Not for advanced fighters: Too light for heavy hitters but good for the casual user

Gikpal Punching Bag Discount

The Gikpal punching bag currently sells on Amazon, which is where I got it from.

And they usually have a coupon that can be applied to bring the cost down even more.

I like that it’s freestanding and that they include boxing gloves and there’s nothing to drill or hang it so it’s ready to use right out of the box.

But I do think adding a bigger base would help to make it more stable.

And although the suction cups do help (on non-porous flooring), heavy kicks or punches can make the bag move around or even tip over.

I’d say this bag is mainly for beginners who are just looking to break a sweat and get some cardio in.
