The Grit Stick is a compact alternative to a chalk bowl or chalk bucket like you see in public gyms.
It’s also less messy and I can take it anywhere with me because of its compact size.
I use chalk mostly when using my gymnastic rings or when working out at the calisthenics park.
But it also helps when I want a secure (less sweaty) grip with barbell exercises.
Let’s check it out!
Unboxing
Table of Contents
The Grit Stick comes in a small black box with a small window showing the container’s color.
I chose red because that’s the theme color of my home gym.
They also have black, blue, purple, and green.
And here’s what the Grit Stick looks like once it’s out of the box.
It’s a metal cylinder with opening at both ends.
I’ll go over all the details below…
Specs
- Length: 8 5/8”
- Diameter: 1 1/2”
- Material: Container is made of metal, lids are made of hard plastic
- Colors: Red, black, blue, purple, and green
Features
One end of the Grit Stick is the chalk holder.
It has holes kinda like a salt shaker to control the amount of chalk that comes out.
The other end is just a storage compartment.
It’s meant to hold small items like ear phones, keys, chap stick, hand sanitizer, etc.
I think they should make it just a bit wider because I can’t fit my car’s key fob in there.
Chalk Bowl/Bucket Alternative
When comparing the Grit Stick to a chalk bowl, the space and price difference is significant especially in a home gym.
A chalk bowl with stand will eat up floor space and easily costs over $100.
Not worth it for something that just holds chalk.
I can toss chalk on my hands with the Grit Stick without eating up any space.
Works the same way if I wanna chalk up my barbell.
Throw some chalk on the bar and when I’m done I just clean it up with my Barbell Rescue brush.
And I can easily hang it on a hook or just clip it to anything.
Zero floor space taken.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Portable: I can take it anywhere in my pocket or I can do like my daughter and clip it to her gym bag
- Compact: Takes up less space than a chalk bucket/bowl and doesn’t require a stand that takes up floor space
- Hygienic: Nobody else has their hands in my chalk
- No mess: Lid keeps chalk from getting all over my garage gym floor
Cons
- Storage: Storage compartment is kinda small and works for some things like earphones but I can’t fit my car’s key fob in there

They don’t currently have any coupon codes but if I found any, I will update this section.
Grit Stick Review
With a limited amount of space in garage gyms, this is a good alternative to chalk bowls with stands.
It’s also less messy because the lid keeps the chalk from blowing everywhere.
And although it does have a storage compartment, I think it could be made a bit wider to fit more items.
Also, for those that like outdoor workouts or prefer their own personal lifting chalk, this is a good option.
