Gym Pin Tri Grips Review

In this Gym Pin Tri Grips review I’ll show GymPin’s version of long tricep ropes.

The long rope is double the length of traditional tricep ropes for improved range of motion and better muscle contraction.

It also has ergonomic handles that fit perfectly in my hands.

Let’s check them out!

Specs

  • Handles: Designed ergonomically to fit my hand curves so my thumbs and fingers have a specific place on the handle.
  • Length: 25.5″ long (from the top center to the bottom of the handle)
  • Rope: Nylon braided rope

Top Benefits Of The Gym Pin Tri Grips

Ergonomic

With the ergonomic rubber handles, my grip feels secure and it also reduces calluses caused by rope friction.

Increased Range of Motion

Because the tricep ropes are longer, I can get more range of motion at the bottom of tricep pushdowns.

With short ropes, I have to keep the ropes in front of my thighs and internally rotate my arms.

Using a long rope I can get tricep and some shoulder extension, which are both functions of the triceps for a complete muscle contraction.

Compatibility

Just like other cable attachments, the GymPin triceps rope is compatible with any cable machine that uses a carabiner.

I mostly use it with the Beyond Power Voltra cable machine but it works with any home gym pulley system.

Length

At 25.5″ long, this is double the length of traditional tricep ropes which gives me more range of motion for better muscle contraction.

Ergonomic Handles

The handles are shaped specifically to fit the curves on my hands.

You can see above that it has bumps and curves so that my palms, thumbs, and fingers all have a specific spot to grip.

On the bottom of the handles you’ll see an “L” and “R” so each handle is specific to my left and right hand.

Gym Pin Tri Grips Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Range of motion: I can move my arms past my thighs so I can get a bigger squeeze in my triceps when doing pushdowns
  • Ergonomic: My hands fit perfectly on the handles giving me a solid grip
  • Compatibility: Works with any cable machine that uses carabiners
  • Rope: Nylon braided rope does not fray like traditional tricep ropes
  • Plastic: Plastic handle reduces callus formation

Cons

  • Handle shape: I can’t switch grip styles so exercises where I have to flip the rope upside down will only work with modifications

Gym Pin Tri Grips Alternatives

GymPin Long Traditional Tricep Ropes

Gym Pin also sells a traditional triceps rope that’s 27.5″ long from the top to the bottom of rope.

It’s a bit longer than their ergonomic handle triceps rope and also thicker.

One advantage that the long traditional tricep rope has, is that I can use them for cable bicep curls.

But a downside to them is that they fray over time with constant use.

Bulletproof Fitness Multi-Strap

Bulletproof Fitness has a long strap with multiple handles that’s meant to be used with their Isolator

But just like any other attachment, it works on any cable machine so it can be used as a tricep rope and then some.

Since this multi-strap has handles at two different lengths, it’s a good alternative to GymPin’s long Tri Grips.

My Experience Using The Gym Pin Tri Grips

gym pin tri grips overhead extension

The Tri Grips feel better than a traditional triceps rope when doing pushdowns and overhead extensions but…

Not so much for exercises where I’m pulling.

For cable bicep curls and face pulls I have to improvise my grip like you see above.

Because the handles are molded to fit my hands in a specific position, I can’t use them upside down unless I fold the rope under my fingers.

So it’s fair to say Tri Grips are strictly for tricep exercises.

Conclusion: Should You Buy The Gym Pin Tri Grips

If you like doing tricep extensions with full range of motion for a full contraction, then the Tri Grips solve that problem.

Compared to shorter tricep ropes, I don’t have to turn my shoulders internally in order to get my triceps to fire at the bottom.

The increased range of motion also lets me move my shoulders back into extension which is also a function of the triceps.

So being able to get full elbow extension and some shoulder extension, my triceps get a bigger contraction with a long rope.
