GymPin Holey Bar Review

The GymPin Holey Bar is a D-handle bar cable attachment that also doubles as a landmine row attachment.

With 23 holes on each side and one in the center, I can’t think of a better name than Holey bar for this product.

I can use it with a narrow grip, wide grip, and everything in between so it gives me lots of versatility.

Let’s check it out!

Unboxing

The bar came perfectly packaged without a scratch.

I dig the black powder coat finish that makes it look very clean.

Right on the center of the Holey Bar there’s a small hole on top and a bigger hole below it.

The top hole works to connect the bar to cable machines.

And the bigger hole is for Olympic sized barbell landmine exercises.

I think it’s smart that they laser cut the Gym Pin logo right next to the center hole for branding.

Each arm on the GymPin Holey bar has 23 holes, 1 inch apart from each other.

Twelve holes have a big diameter and eleven are smaller.

I don’t think I’ll ever use that many holes but it’s good to have options.

What is The GymPin Holey Bar?

what is the gym pin holey bar

The Holey Bar is a combination of a D-Handle bar cable attachment and a landmine T-Bar row handle.

I can connect it to any cable machine for a variety of exercises like tricep pushdowns, lat pulldowns, seated rows, bicep curls, and more.

And I can insert a barbell through the center hole for landmine rows.

What’s great about it, is that it has plenty of grip width options so I can use the grip that feels better for my body.

Top Benefits Of The Holey Bar

Versatility

As a landmine row attachment, it’s mainly a T-bar row handle.

But when I use it as a cable machine attachment, there’s a bunch of exercises I can do with it (I’ll show you some later).

Plus I also have the ability to grab it at different widths so that gives me more exercise variations.

Grip Widths

I like having the option to adjust grip widths for two reasons.

First, I can hit different muscle groups by changing the position of my arms.

And second, multiple grip options makes the bar more user friendly.

The grip widths I use may not feel comfortable for someone else so this bar was made to fit all body types.

For narrow grip T-bar rows I do have to improvise a bit otherwise the weight plates will hit the carabiners.

So I added a couple of Micro Gainz plates to create space between the bar and the bar.

Best Features Of The GymPin Holey Bar

Landmine Row Attachment

The center hole on the bar feels great when I do landmine T-Bar rows.

But it is not perfect in the sense that it’s bare metal so it doesn’t offer the barbell protection.

I personally don’t care about this but there’s lots of people who baby their barbells.

Adding UHMW plastic to the center hole would be an easy way to prevent the barbell from getting scratched.

Use Any Handle

Once I slide the barbell sleeve through the hole, I just use whatever handle I want.

Sometimes I use the Angles 90 grips…

Sometimes I use regular D-handles.

Anything with a carabiner or strap will work.

Cable Machine Attachment

When I’m not using it for landmine exercises, the Holey Bar is one of my favorite cable machine attachments.

I clip the top center hole to my Voltra cable machine and I’m ready to roll.

Then I can do a bunch of exercises for different muscle groups by moving the cable machine up and down my uprights.

Exercises Using The Holey Bar

Here’s a landmine T-bar row.

I like using the Angles 90 because of their long straps so that I can get full range of motion.

Tricep pushdowns using regular D-handles.

Over head tricep extensions…

Straight bar pulldowns…

Lat pulldowns…

Bicep curls…

And standing rows which I can also do seated.

As you can see, I can do a lot with the Holey Bar and versatility is always great in a home gym setting.

GymPin Holey Bar Alternatives

The closest alternative to the Holey Bar is the Darko Lifting Longy Bar.

This bar has 8 D-handle holes on each with a center hole for landmine work.

One thing that stands out on the Longy Bar is that the center is lined with plastic to protect the barbell and weight plates.

It does come at a much higher price than the Holey Bar though.

Holey Bar Pros & Cons

My Experience Using The GymPin Holey Bar

gym pin holey bar vs others

I’ve used several cable machine attachments that also work as T bar row handle attachments like the two you see above.

Those two are the multifunctional handle bar (top) and the ultimate row handle (bottom).

Both attachments have built-in handles that can be adjusted width-wise and both work just like the Holey Bar but…

gym pin holey bar storage

The biggest thing for me is that they are bulky so they take up more space when not in use so I have to keep them on a storage shelf.

With the Holey Bar being so light and compact, I can hang it using a mag pin from the side of my weight rack.

And believe me, after reviewing many products, space utilization and home gym organization is key if you don’t your garage gym to get cluttered.

Conclusion: Should You Buy The Gym Pin Holey Bar?

If you love cable machine exercises but don’t want the clutter of multiple attachments, the Holey Bar is a great option.

It’s built tough, has multiple grip width options, and you can use any handle you want.

As a plus, it can be used as a landmine T-bar row handle.

At less than $100, this is an excellent attachment for home gym owners.
