Gymproluxe Review

The Gymproluxe Band and Bar set 2.0 is here and if you’re into resistance band system, this is one that’s unique.

All the bands are attached to a belt so there’s no loose pieces.

And the kit uses an adjustable tension system that allows me to progressively overload so I can continue to challenge myself.

It comes with a barbell that splits in the middle for easy storage and a carrying case so everything is stored away neatly.

Unboxing

Here’s how everything looked when I opened the box.

The bar is split in half and the belt with the bands is right next to it.

Right off the bat, I like that it’s compact and how all the bands are attached so there’s less of a mess.

Here’s everything out of the box.

The bar is lined with rubber and has eye hooks on each end so I can use it with bands that have carabiners.

Right below the bar you see the belt and bands set.

And right under is the carrying bag.

The Gymproluxe Band and Bar Set is a portable resistance bands system with variable resistance that allows me to train from home or on the go.

It uses resistance bands that are strapped to a belt and handles and can be adjusted to work as a single band or stacked to add more resistance.

How To Use Gymproluxe

Each end of the belt has a handle with slots where I can anchor down the resistance bands.

These same slots are on the belt and to make resistance adjustments, I disconnect the bands from the handle end.

I pulled out each band to show you what the end looks like.

You can see there there’s a thicker part on the end piece and that’s what keeps the band from slipping out of the handle.

And each end is also labeled with the amount of resistance each band provides.

If I just want to use 22 lbs of resistance on each end, I leave the white band on the handle and pull out the other two.

The other two bands are still attached to the belt but don’t get in the way.

Here’s what that looks like from the belt side and handle side.

I only make adjustments from the handle side and the belt side stays the same.

This is a great idea because it reduces clutter since everything stays on the belt regardless of what bands I’m using.

If I wanna go up in resistance, I can attach another band so I can stack the total resistance of all bands.

In the pic above, I have the white and green band attached and left the black one out.

Now that the handles are loaded, I’m ready to use them for any exercise I want.

If I wanna use the bar, I slide it through the handles.

That’s all there’s to it…

I can use the Gymproluxe one arm at a time or two at a time with either handles or the bar.

Gymproluxe uses a unique way to stack the handles with multiple bands so I can add resistance.

I can use one band or stack two or three together for more resistance.

My favorite part about this whole set up is that everything stays on the belt so they’re readily available at all times.

Space Saving

Since the entire system is a belt and a bar, it really doesn’t take up too much space.

The band can be folded to almost nothing…

And I can unscrew the bar in the middle so that it cuts its size in half.

Then I toss everything in the travel bag it comes with.

Adjustable Mechanism

I find the adjustable handle and belt mechanism to be the best feature in the Gymproluxe.

It’s simple yet brilliant.

This makes it easy to increase and decrease the resistance by just removing and adding bands.

I also like that the bands have a protective cover so it extends the life of the bands and makes it safer for the user in case one of them ever snaps.

Chest Exercises

For bench press, I can either use the handles or add the bar.

It feels good while doing it and it gets harder at the top, but I lose some tension at the bottom (this happens with most band systems).

I really like how the bands make pushups more challenging.

It almost feels like when you I resistance bands or chains when bench pressing (it gets harder as I push up).

As far as chest training with the Gymproluxe goes, this is my favorite way to do it because I can feel resistance throughout the entire exercise.

I don’t feel chest flys are effective because there’s no resistance when I bring my arms towards the center.

For this exercise to be effective, I need bands anchored off to the sides so they can provide resistance from the outside in.

Shoulders

Kneeling shoulder presses feel good at the start since the bands are pre-stretched at the bottom of the exercise.

But as I go up, the band reaches its stretching limit and I fall short of full range of motion.

This might be a better one to do one arm at a time.

So I got rid of the bar, stepped on one handle, and used the other to do unilateral shoulder presses.

This felt much better because I was able to get to the top of the movement without restrictions.

For lateral raises, I do the same thing except I step on the handle with the opposite side foot.

With this being a lateral raise, I don’t need a lot of resistance so I keep it on the lightest band (white).

Biceps

I tried bicep curls both with a bar and with the handles.

With the bar I have the ability to load more resistance since it’s more stable and I have the other arm helping out.

But doing them single handedly with the handles felt great too.

I can definitely feel a pump…

Back

For seated rows, I stacked all the bands together and it does get challenging when the bands are stretched.

I used the handles for this variation so the bar wouldn’t hit my chest.

Then I tried bent over rows using the bar and it feels good as I get to the top.

But again, I lose some tension at the bottom of the exercise where the bands don’t offer much resistance.

This is just something that happens with band systems, not just this one.

Legs

As far as leg exercises go, the one I went with is deadlifts.

The resistance is not enough to say it’s challenging but it’s enought that it forces me to focus on using proper form.

Aside from deadlifts, the bands are too short to get under the bar and do squats or lunges.

Cons

  • Pricey: The set is pricey but it is made of quality materials and comes with a lifetime warranty
  • Resistance profile: Just like with any other bands, you lose tension at the bottom of some exercises when the bands are not stretched

My Experience Using The Gymproluxe Band & Bar Set 2.0

The bands felt good in some exercises and for some it didn’t.

And this is mostly because they’re short, so in some exercises that require a big range of motion, I wasn’t able to achieve that.

So I had to modify them and use one arm at a time instead.

I feel the bands provide enough resistance for beginners to intermediate lifters who don’t have a lot of space and want a minimal workout set up.

Is The Gymproluxe Set Worth It?

For a beginner to intermediate athlete, the bands provide good resistance to get a challenging workout.

The space saving benefit they offer is a big plus because it can fit in a book bag or travel bag so it’s not going to eat a lot of space.

And having the ability to adjust the resistance so that you can challenge yourself as you get stronger will keep you from this getting too easy.

If you’re into resistance band training, this would be a good option since you’ll be able to workout most of your body with this one kit.
