The Keppi Open Collars are magnetic Olympic barbell clamps with a C-shaped design.

This open design makes it super quick to add the collars to any barbell or specialty bars.

And with built-in magnets and dual lever locks, they clamp down tight to keep weight plates from moving.

Let’s check them out!

The Open collars come in a fancy box with foam inserts for every clamp.

Very nice presentation that keeps them from getting banged up during shipping.

And here’s what they look like out of the box.

C-shaped with dual levers on the outside, rubber insides, and a couple of teeth that clamp down to the bar.

What Are Keppi Open Collars?

Keppi Open Collars are barbell clamps with a dual lever locking system and an open design (modeled after the Eleiko Oppen collars).

Their C-shaped design is different than traditional barbell collars that are circular and insert into a barbell at the of barbell sleeves.

The open design makes it easy to attach and remove from barbell sleeves without having to slide them in from the end.

Their purpose is to keep weight plates from slipping off barbells while weight training.

Top Benefits Of Keppi Open Collars

Quick Set Up

Although regular barbell collars don’t take long to setup, the Open collar makes it even faster.

Here’s how I clamp the collars to barbell sleeves…

First, flip the dual levers up, then slide the open end of the collar on to the bar.

Once the Open collar is on the sleeve, I make sure to push it all the way back until it’s touching the weight plates.

Then I push both lever locks down until they click and that’s it.

With the lever locks down, a pair of teeth clamp down on the barbell sleeve so it’s not moving anywhere.

Both teeth and the inside of the barbell collar are rubberized for maximum grip.

And I gotta say, the double teeth are much stronger than Eleiko’s Oppen collar’s single tooth so this is an improvement.

Fits Most Bars

Olympic Barbells

With a 2″ opening, the Keppi Open collars are made to fit Olympic sized barbells.

So that means they can be used in most specialty bars too.

Specialty Bars

I tried them on my Bells of Steel safety squat bar

And that bar definitely needs them because it has shorter than normal barbell sleeves.

So any slight tilt can cause the plates to slide off (ask me how I know)…

And my EZ curl bar…

They fit all the bars I tried them on so I might be getting rid of some old collars.

Best Features Of Keppi Open Collars

Dual Lever Locks

Keppi uses a double lever lock that really clamps down on the bar.

When the levers are up, you can see the open end doesn’t have teeth coming out.

But when I push the levers down, the teeth close the opening where the barbell sleeve sits.

The dual lock along with the non-slip rubber insides, give the Open collars a real tight grip.

I’d say they’re even more secure than the Eleiko Oppen collars that use a single tooth to clamp down.

Magnetic Barbell Clamp

There’s a built-in magnet right around the area below the levers.

It’s not visible but it’s convenient for storage cause I just stick it anywhere on my weight rack or any other metal object.

I wouldn’t say the magnet is super strong, but it’s strong enough to stay on the uprights.

The magnet also ensures that the collars are all the way up against the weight plates.

Of course, this only works with iron weight plates or competition bumper plates with the metal center inserts.

It’s surprising that they sell them for this low.

Keppi Open Collars vs Eleiko Oppen Collars

Eleiko Oppen Collars

The Eleiko Oppen Collars are the original open barbell clamps.

Their design uses one lever lock and one tooth to clamp down on the bar.

Eleiko sells these for $115 plus the cost of shipping.

Keppi Open Collars

The biggest difference I see between Eleiko and Keppi is the double lever locks and double teeth.

As you can tell from the picture above, Keppi’s design squeezes the barbell from top to bottom so the grip is tighter.

My Experience Using Keppi Open Collars

I like the Open collars because do what they’re supposed to do.

The lever locks are easy to use, yet firm enough that they won’t snap open.

Rubber insides keep my barbells from getting scratched.

And they keep weight plates from shifting while I workout so there’s no chance of them slipping off.

Are Keppi Open Collars Worth It?

For less than $40, Keppi’s Open collars are definitely worth it.

With their dual lever locking system they squeeze all types of Olympic barbells with enough force to keep plates from falling off.

Aesthetically, they look clean and the C-shape gives you a slightly faster way to anchor down your plates.
