The Major Fitness Home Gym barbell is a multi-purpose bar available in two colors.
I have the black one so that’s what I’m reviewing but it’s also available in silver.
Good for powerlifting and Olympic lifts, this bar can be used for a variety of exercises regardless of your training style.
Let’s check it out!
Unboxing
The barbell comes in a box wrapped in tape from head to toe.
There was light damage to the box but nothing major.
Once I opened the box, the ends of the bar are protected by foam.
Once I took it out of the box, it was covered in plastic.
And here it is…
Nice, shiny, black coat which gives it an aesthetic look but from past experience, I know black sleeves can get scratched so I’ll have to test them out.

Best Features Of The Major Fitness Home Gym Barbell
Bushings
The bar’s sleeves spin on brass bushings giving it a smooth spin.
This is good because it protects my wrists and forearms from injury especially when doing explosive exercises like snatches.
Knurling
I like the medium to aggressive knurling on the bar cause I can get a good grip without tearing up my hands.
It has dual knurl marks: (1) Closest mark to center is for powerlifting (2) Outer mark is for Olympic lifts.
Because this is multi-purpose bar, there is no center knurl.

Major Fitness Home Gym Barbell Alternatives
Rogue Ohio Bar
The Rogue Ohio Bar is a great option for a multi-purpose barbell.
It costs about $35 more than Major Fitness’ bar (not including shipping) and it is one of the highest rated bars among home gym owners.
Living Fit Barbell
Living Fit’s 20 kg barbell is coated in black Cerakote so it looks similar to Major Fitness’ except it’s not as shiny.
This bar’s sleeves also scratch easily but this is just aesthetic.
With a weight capacity of 1500 lbs and a lifetime warranty, this bar’s value is one of the best.
My Experience Using The Major Fitness Home Gym Barbell
The bar has a smooth spin and the lack of center knurl doesn’t affect me at all.
I mostly power lift and once in a while throw in some Olympic lifts so for what I do, it works well.
I like the bar’s knurling a lot.
It’s medium-aggressive so it’s not too passive and not too aggressive either.
The one issue I’ve seen with all black coated sleeves is that they look nice when they’re new….
But as soon as you start sliding weight plates in and out, they start getting scratched.
Doesn’t take anything away from how the bar works, but this is why I prefer chrome sleeves.
Major Fitness does sell the same bar in chrome which takes care of this issue.
Conclusion: Should You Buy The Major Fitness Home Gym Barbell?
Major Fitness’ multi-purpose bar gets the job done for any type of workout.
The knurling feels surprisingly good and assures you get a secure grip.
It has a black finish that gives it a great look but the sleeves will get scratches over time.
Overall, this is a barbell that will work for most home gym owners who just want to stay in shape.
