The RitFit leg extension curl machine (PLC01) is a combination seated leg extension, lying leg curl machine.

It’s plate loaded but because it’s cable driven, it provides constant resistance throughout every rep.

And for less than $400, it’s one of the most budget friendly lower body machines I’ve tested.

Let’s check it out!

Unboxing

unboxing the ritfit leg extension curl machine

I’m very impressed with the packaging of the product.

As soon as I unboxed it, there’s an extra layer of protection at the top which I wasn’t expecting.

Once I removed that top layer, every part of the machine was bubble wrapped for protection.

Takes a little of work to unwrap but I’d rather have that extra protection than have parts damaged.

And here is everything that comes in the box.

Everything is disassembled which helps to reduce the cost of shipping so that it’s not passed down to me.

There are no damages to report so RitFit’s packaging works like it should.

Top Benefits Of The RitFit Leg Extension Curl Machine

Two-In-One

ritfit leg extension curl machine reviews 43

With the RitFit PLC01, I get two machines in one, a leg extension machine and a lying leg curl machine.

In the setup above, I’m doing leg extensions to work my quads.

And by pulling a couple of pop pins, I can adjust the seat down and the leg roller up to convert it into a lying leg curl machine…

Here’s what that looks like…

With lying leg curls I’m able to workout my hamstrings with the same machine so I don’t need a separate bench which saves me floor space.

So I only need one machine and I’m able to use it to workout multiple muscle groups.

Resistance Curve

Even though this machine is plate loaded, it uses a cam and pulley combo to lift the lever arm so this feels different than other lever arm leg machines.

The lever arm travels a very short distance so I’m able to maintain more of a constant resistance through every rep.

Only downside to this is that it provides too much mechanical advantage (3:2 ratio) so I feel less resistance than the amount of weight I load.

To calculate the actual weight I’m lifting, I have to multiply the loaded weight by 0.666. So if I load 200 lbs, I’m actually lifting 133 lbs (200 x 0.666).

The good thing is that the weight horn is 12 3/4″ long and has a weight capacity of 375 lbs.

So the amount of weight I can load depends on the width of the plates I use.

If I use bumper plates they’ll obviously eat up more space than if I went with thin weight plates.

I tried connecting the weight horn to my Voltra cable machine but I couldn’t do it.

And that’s because the weight horn lever arm moves up and down, not side to side.

ritfit leg extension curl machine weight capacity

I currently using competition bumper plates and the most weight I can load on the weight horn is 235 lbs.

With a 3:2 ratio, I’m actually lifting 156 lbs (235 lbs x 0.666).

If you’re someone who lifts heavy on leg extensions, then using thinner plates is a better option so you don’t eat up the entire weight horn.

band pegs on the ritfit leg extension machine

And to make it a bit different, RitFit added band pegs.

So on top of the weight plates, I can use accommodating resistance.

It’s impossible to calculate the exact resistance with bands added but it definitely forces me to push harder and get a big squeeze at the end of each rep.

Stability

Multiple contact points for stability

Since the plates are loaded to one side, I wanted to make sure this was stable.

RitFit did a great job adding multiple contact points that extend out enough to prevent tilting or wobbling.

In the pic above, I pointed out all the different parts that come in contact with the floor to cover plenty of surface area.

So it’s not surprising that it doesn’t wobble at all even when I load the weight horn to the max.

Each leg has a rubber foot at the end and these are good enough to keep the machine from sliding.

But they can come off easily if you move the machine around but for a budget machine, these rubber feet are the norm.

Best Features Of The RitFit Leg Extension Curl Machine

Sundial

sundial on the ritfit leg machine

The sundial has two functions: (1) changes the leg roller lever arm position and (2) acts as a cam to maintain consistent tension.

Normally I like to see sundials to have as many holes as possible but this machine has plenty to get a deep stretch for leg extensions.

And it’s as easy as pulling a pop pin to change the position of the leg roller lever arm.

Above I have the leg roller lever arm set to the last position and as you can see, I get a great pre-stretch so the tension on my quads is there from the beginning of each rep.

It almost looks like I’m doing sissy squats cause my leg is flexed so much so I’m happy with the range of motion on the PLC01.

To switch to lying leg curls, I pull the pop pin and move the leg roller lever arm to the left on the sundial to what fits my body.

Super simple to do and all I have to do after is flip the back support down so it creates a decline bench.

Here’s what that looks like…

I’ll show you how I adjust the back support in a second but wanted to give you a glimpse at the complete setup.

Adjustable Seat

So same as the sundial, the back support uses a pop pin.

There’s 4 holes so I can set the bench to a full upright position or decline it back so I can recline when doing leg extensions.

This opens up my hips so my Rectus Femoris gets a bigger stretch since it crosses the hip joint.

Here’s what the back support looks like on the first decline level.

If you’re training for hypertrophy, a pre-stretch on your quads coming from the angled leg roller and a reclined back support will give you the best results.

To flip the back support down, I just pull the pop pin and recline the back pad all the way down until I hear a click.

Super simple to do and this sets me up for lying leg curls.

Here’s what that looks like…

The seat pad is angled to match the back pad angle and one I lay on it, I hang on to the handles in the back to stabilize my upper body.

Aluminum Pulley

aluminum pulleys on the ritfit leg extension machine

I like that they included an aluminum pulley so it gives the machine a smooth, fluid motion.

The cable that runs through the pulley connects the weight plate lever arm to the sundial so it doesn’t cover a lot of distance.

Over time, my main concern would be the durability of the cable.

I’m sure if I needed to replace it, I could reach out to RitFit so that shouldn’t be a problem.

RitFit Leg Extension Curl Machine Pros & Cons

ritfit leg extension curl machine pros and cons

Pros

  • Weight capacity: Has a weight capacity of 375 lbs that will enough for most people
  • Resistance curve: Tension feel consistent throughout each rep
  • Stability: Doesn’t wobble at all or shift to the side even when I load the entire weight horn
  • Price: This is an affordable leg extension curl machine but works well making it a great machine for those on a budget
  • Pulley: Aluminum pulleys give it a smooth feel
  • Range of motion: Love the deep stretch I get during leg extensions

Cons

  • Pulley ratio: 3:2 pulley ratio means you have to load up the weight horn a lot to actually lift a lot of weight
  • Padding: Thin padding and vinyl are not thick or grippy but that’s expected with a product at this price point. I’d like if the seat pad was wider than 14″ because I have to bring my thighs close to each other so they don’t go off the sides of the seat.

RitFit Leg Extension Curl Machine Alternatives

Lions Cool Leg Extension Leg Curl Machine

The LionsCool leg extension and curl machine uses a similar sundial and cable setup as RitFit’s but it uses a dual weight horn that sits behind the seat.

According to LionsCool’s website the pulley ratio is 1:1 so you’re getting a true felt weight, what you load is what you lift.

LionsCool also added a curve to the lever arm to help maintain constant tension.

Gronk Fitness Leg Extension Leg Curl Machine

The Gronk Fitness leg extension leg curl machine is plate loaded but not cable driven.

This machine is also a seated leg curl machine so the back pad is not adjustable just the position of the leg roller lever arm.

If you prefer seated leg curls, this is a solid option.

Bulletproof Isolator

bullet proof fitness equipment isolator review

The Bulletproof Isolator is a multi-function rack attachment that can be used as a leg extension and leg curl machine but…

It also gives home gym owners more versatility than a dedicated leg machine.

So I threw it in here cause I can use it like a leg extension machine, preacher curl bench, back extension machine, and much more.

My Experience Using The RitFit Leg Extension Curl Machine

shredded dad using the ritfit leg extension leg curl machine plc01

Overall I’m happy with the PLC01 because it doesn’t take up a ton of floor space in my garage gym and I can knock out two isolation exercises.

The resistance feels consistent throughout both exercises and I’m able to get a good pre-stretch.

Quality is on par with the price point but I see this as a great piece for home gym owner who don’t wanna break the bank on one of these machines.
