Sauna Box Review

The Sauna Box is a portable, home steam sauna that sets up easily and takes up little space.

My goal with this unit is to use it for relaxation and recovery.

It’s super easy to set up, can be taken apart quickly, and is shaped like a pentagon so it fits right into a corner.

I hook it up to my wall outlet so there’s no electrical work to be done and it’s ready to use in 15 minutes just using water.

Unboxing

The entire set up comes in one box which is impressive but then again, it’s meant to be a portable steam sauna so it makes sense.

First thing I saw when I opened the box is a plastic cover with a QR code on the top right that took me to an set up video.

I took off the plastic cover and there’s two boxes under it.

First I opened the long box and it has the cover, a towel, folding chair, floor mat, travel bag, and PVC fittings.

Under the cover there’s a bunch of fiber glass rods that make up the frame of the sauna.

The smaller box contains the steamer.

Good thing about this unit is that I don’t need any special electrical work done before I can use it.

I plug it in to my wall outlet and it’s ready to use.

Here are all the pieces from both boxes.

After watching the set up video, it seems very easy to set up so this won’t take long.

What Is The Sauna Box?

The Sauna Box is a one person, home steam sauna.

It works with a steamer and heat insulated thermal cover to maintain a constant temperature between 130 and 140 degrees Fahrenheit.

It’s easy to set up and take down so I can get the benefits of steam saunas from the convenience of my home.

Sauna Box does offer a two person set up called the Sauna Box Go.

Set Up

It also comes with an instructions manual if you’re more into step-by-step pictures with written descriptions.

Below I’ll walk you through how I set it up…

Frame

All the rods come labeled with stickers which makes the set up super easy.

They’re all different sizes but with the letters I don’t have to worry about which size goes where.

The set up starts with a base that’s shaped like a pentagon.

I like that they designed it this way because I can shove it in a corner and make better use of my space.

Now it’s time to connect all the base rods together.

The kit comes with PVC fittings that are also labeled so it’s easy to know where they go.

I just push the rods all the way into the fittings and they stay in place.

Once I got all the base pieces connected, I unzipped the cover and inserted the frame into it.

Make sure you don’t get ahead of yourself and build the entire frame before inserting it to the bottom of the cover.

This will make the set up way harder…

Now that I have the bottom of the cover on, I continue building the frame upwards.

I just kept connecting rods to the T-fittings until I got to the top.

Cover

Now that the frame is built, it’s time to throw the cover on top.

I just slide each corner on top of the frame, it’s that simple.

Now that the cover is on the frame, I zip the bottom and top of the door.

The zippers are double sided which is a great idea.

This makes it easy for me to open and close the door when I’m inside the sauna.

And here’s the finished product.

Super simple but it gets the job done.

Floor Mat

Now that I got the sauna built it’s time to go inside.

The kit comes with a floor mat that absorbs sweat and believe me, this comes in handy because you will sweat a lot.

This keeps the floor from getting all messy and it’s machine washable.

Before I put the folding chair in here, I’m going to set up the steamer.

Steamer

Here’s what the steamer parts look like.

There’s a short tube that connects to the steamer, a middle piece that connects both tubes (longer tube goes inside), and a steam output box.

On the bottom right of the Sauna Box, there’s a small hole and this is where I’ll be inserting the tubes from the steamer to the inside of the box.

The short tube connects to the lid and the other end connects to a nut.

From the inside, the longer tube goes on the nut and connects to the steam output box.

Here’s what it looks like once the steamer is fully set up.

Now all that’s left is to insert the folding chair inside and I’m ready to roll.

Top Benefits Of The Sauna Box

Recovery

The one reason I got the Sauna Box is for the recovery benefits.

I’m 46 years old and at my age I pay more attention to what keeps me in the game.

Muscle recovery, improved circulation, and detoxification are benefits that play a big roll in my goals so I can continue working out.

Relaxation

The mental side of things is also important.

While I’m in the Sauna Box, this is my time to relax, de-stress, and just have time alone by myself.

It’s not sound proof but I can take my phone in there and play music or just enjoy the sound of silence while the kids sleep.

Space

I like that most of the space taken up is vertical so I can shove the unit in a corner.

The whole set up is 35″ wide, 35″ deep, and 6’2″ tall.

As long as you have 3 feet of space from side to side and front to back, it’ll fit in a corner.

Best Features Of The Sauna Box

Steamer

The inside of the steamer is made of stainless steel and kinda looks like a rice maker.

On the sides you’ll see line markers so that you know what the max water capacity is.

Sauna Box recommends using distilled water so that you inhale the purest water possible and to reduce mineral deposits on the tubes.

Once filled, I put the lid on and the water takes about 15 minutes to start boiling when filled to the max.

If you notice steam coming from the steamer lid, it’s not on correctly.

Make sure you turn it all the way to the right so that all the steam goes into the Sauna Box.

The control panel on the outside of the steamer is straight forward.

Arrows on the left side select the time and the arrows on the right select the heat levels.

I set a timer on my phone to match the time on the display but it’d be nice if it the unit came with a timer I could see from the inside.

I can also control the time and temperature with a remote control but it’s not water proof.

So if I want to take it inside the sauna, I have to throw it in the waterproof phone case.

Heat Insulated Cover

The heat insulated cover does a really good job at keeping the heat inside the sauna and maintaining a constant temperature.

On my first run, I turned out the sauna and let it run for an entire 30 minutes and didn’t see any steam escaping from the cover.

Not even from the zippers which was surprising.

The door has a plastic window that’s velcro’d to it and that is also very good at retaining the steam inside.

I like the idea of having that window just in case it gets too hot and I need to bring the temperature down a bit.

Double Sided Zippers

The double sided zippers make a lot of sense so I can open the door easily from the inside.

Sometimes the inside zipper does get caught against the fiber glass frame when I’m closing it from the outside.

Not a big deal though, I just reach inside and push it past the post and it keeps moving.

Sweat Absorbing Floor Mat

Before I started using the Sauna Box, I didn’t know how much I was going to sweat so having a sweat absorbing mat makes a lot of sense.

The steam makes you sweat profusely so the mat is there to catch all that so the floor doesn’t get messy.

It’s machine washable so every once in a while it’s a good idea to clean it up.

Water Proof Phone Case

Sauna Box does throw in a waterproof phone case that is made of hard plastic and seals like a Ziploc bag.

This way I can play music or scroll around social media while I’m relaxing.

There’s also a phone pocket on one of the walls.

You still wanna use the waterproof case but this gives me a spot to drop the phone so I don’t have to hold it.

This way I can just sit back and relax.

Sauna Box Pros & Cons

Pros

• Set up: Fiber glass frame is real easy to set up and break down. The videos on their website help out a lot.

• Footprint: Doesn’t require a lot of room and the pentagon shape lets me put it in a corner.

• Cover: The heat insulated cover does a good job at maintaining the temperature inside.

• Zippers: Double zipper lets me open/close the door from inside and outside the steam sauna.

• Steamer: The electrical unit starts pumping out steam within 15 minutes so it doesn’t take long.

• Electrical: It doesn’t require any special electrical work. I simply plug it in to a wall outlet.

• Non-toxic materials: I like that all materials used are non-toxic since I’ll be inhaling the steam

Cons

• Distilled water: Sauna Box recommends using distilled water to eliminate mineral deposits on the tubes. I just use filtered water.

I think this is fairly priced for the quality of materials they use and everything that’s included.

Sauna Box Alternatives

Serene Lift Portable Infrared Sauna

The Serene Life infrared sauna is also portable and keeps a maximum temperature of 140 degrees Fahrenheit.

It uses infrared radiation to heat the body so it’s dry heat.

I prefer the moist heat the steam sauna provides because I feel it penetrates my muscles better but if that’s not your jam, you have this option.

My Experience Using The Sauna Box

I’m very impressed with the Sauna Box.

It’s super easy to put together and doesn’t take long to get the steam going.

But the best part is that it helps me feel awesome without having to leave my house.

I feel less stiff, mentally relaxed, and even sleep better every time I use it.

Is The Sauna Box Worth It?

If you enjoy feeling good and taking care of your body, the Sauna Box is a good investment.

It’s fairly priced, durable, and very easy to use.

Once it’s set up, all you have to do is add water to the steamer and in 15 minutes you’ll be in steam sauna heaven.
