The Strong Arm Review

The Strong Arm is a forearm and wrist strengthener from the maker of the Strong Neck.

I’ve tried other forearm devices before but they’re all designed to be used one arm at a time.

With the Strong Arm I can use both arm simultaneously or individually.

I can use it with a weight plate or without one.

And I love the insane forearm pump I get from it.

Let’s check it out!

Unboxing

the strong arm

The Strong Arm comes wrapped in plastic without any padding.

With a device like this being all metal, I can see why adding bubble wrap or styrofoam isn’t necessary.

Once I took the plastic off, the loading sleeve comes fully wrapped and taped.

And here’s the Strong Arm out of the box.

It’s powder coated in black, has an Olympic sized loading sleeve, and three rubber hand grips.

Aesthetically, it’s a good looking piece of equipment so it’s time to put it to the test to see how it performs.

One thing to note is that it does NOT come with a collar so that’s something you’d have to pick up separately if you don’t already own one.

Specs

  • Weight: 4.8 lbs
  • Grips: Three rubberized grips, 4.5″ long, honey comb texture to prevent slipping
  • Loading sleeve: 5.25″ long
  • Length: From the bottom of the single handle to the top of the loading sleeve, it is 15.5″ long
  • Compatibility: Works with Olympic sized iron or bumper plates only (2″ center hole)

The Strong Arm Angle

I’ve used wrist and forearm strengtheners with straight bars like the HGG Performance Wrist Axe and the Tib Bar Guy Torque Bar.

And they’re great to hit the wrist and forearms from all angles but you lose some tension when the weight is directly over your hand with some movements.

But the angle on the Strong Arm eliminates that issue and my muscles are under constant tension.

That angle puts me at a disadvantage and gives my forearms an insane pump!

Rubber Grips

There’s three rubber grips on each handle.

They’re on there tightly so I don’t feel like they spin whenever I’m doing wrist and forearm exercises.

The honey comb pattern on the grips helps to prevent my hands from slipping if I get sweaty.

And here’s another angle of all three rubber grips.

Loading Sleeve

The loading sleeve is also powder coated and measures 5.25″ long with a plastic end cap at the end.

It seems short but you really don’t need much weight to get a great forearm and wrist workout.

Especially if you’re using one arm at a time.

Over time, I can see the powder coat getting scratched but to me that’s not as important as the function of the device.

And here’s what the Strong Arm looks like when I put a 10 lbs iron weight plate on it.

As you can see there’s plenty of room left on the sleeve even with a weight collar on.

Wrist & Forearm Exercises

Wrist Extension & Flexion

I can isolate my forearm extensors simultaneously or one arm at a time like if I was using a wrist roller machine.

You can see the angle of the loading sleeve keeps the weight in front of my hands so it keeps pulling and my muscles stay under tension.

Same goes for my wrist flexors.

This time I flipped the device to reduce some of the tension.

So I can make it easier or harder by just changing the angle of the loading sleeve.

This is radial deviation using the single handle.

For this one I’m not using any weight and trust me you won’t need much to feel it.

In fact, I can see myself using MicroGainz fractional weight plates for these single hand exercises.

And this is ulnar deviation.

This is supination where I turn my forearm until my wrist is facing up.

And for pronation I turn it the opposite way until my palm is face down.

So as you can see, I hit my forearms and wrists from every angle possible.

The Strong Arm Review

I’ve used many forearm and wrist strengtheners and this one gives me the craziest pumps.

The angle on the Strong Arm makes a HUGE difference in the tension on my muscles.

I can really feel the muscle isolation as I go through the exercises.

And I really like having the option to use both arms at a time or go single arm.
