If you’ve never hopped on the Xebex air bike, you’re missing out on one of the best whole body cardio workouts available.
I love HIIT workouts because they get my lungs working over time.
When I say you’ll be exhausted after using the Xebex bike, I’m not kidding.
It pushes my body and mental toughness like no other piece of equipment.
Let’s check it out!
Features
If you’re into CrossFit (which I’m not) you’ve probably experienced how hard air bike workouts are.
The way air bikes work is with air resistance so it automatically ramps up as you push, pull, and pedal.
There are no resistance knobs or buttons to adjust.
So the harder you go, the harder the workout gets (in other words you can’t win).
A feature I really like about the Xebex air bike is that I can workout my upper and lower body at the same time…
Or I can work them out independently.
If I want to focus mainly on my upper body, I can keep my feet on the pegs and just use my arms.
I like using as a warm up for my upper body workouts.
And I can also use my legs by themselves if I just feel like pedaling.
But I get the most bang for my buck when using my whole body.
Pegs
This is possible because the pegs are not directly connected to the bike arms.
The arms swivel around the pegs.
And speaking of the pegs, you can see they’re knurled so that my feet have good grip.
The fan housing is 27″ in diameter and the fan blows towards the user.
I mention this because the air blowing at me feels great during the summer.
But during the winter it sucks which is why GetRxd sells a wind cover that minimizes the cold air coming at me.
Adjustable Feet
Right below the fan you can see the front wheels and feet.
The wheels are suspended when in use so the only thing touching the floor are the rubberized feet.
These are adjustable just in case your floors are uneven.
The rear feet have the same adjustable feature.
Pedals
The pedals on the Xebex bike have raised rubber grips.
So far I haven’t had any issues with my feet coming off the pedals.
Chain Driven
This is a chain driven bike which to me means durability.
A belt might be slightly quieter but overtime a chain will last longer.
If you live in a humid environment and the air bike is exposed to that (as in a garage gym), then you might have to oil it up once in a while.
But other than that, it’s low maintenance.
Adjustable Seat
I like that the seat on the bike is adjustable so that other people in my family can also use it.
It has several height settings.
Also adjusts horizontally with the turn of the black handle seen below the seat.
The seat has a good amount of padding so it’s comfortable.
Stitching and upholstery on the seat is high quality.
Handles
The handles are rubber dipped so I’m not worried about my hands slipping off at any time.
Full Body Workout
Earlier I told you that both I can use my arms and legs independently on the Xebex air bike.
But I get the most out of this bike when I’m using all my limbs at the same time.
That’s where I get my ass handed to me and what makes air bikes so hard.
Your whole body is moving and the harder you push, the harder it gets.
Console
The console sits in between both arms and doesn’t have a cell phone or tablet holder.
In air bike where HIIT cardio is the main use, I don’t think one of those holders is necessary.
Here’s a close up look at the Xebex AB-1 monitor.
Buttons are big and easy to understand and everything on the screen is labeled so I can track everything.
The pic above shows you how console features have evolved with the different Xebex air bikes.
Pic one shows the AB-1, pic two shows the AB-1-R, and pic three shows the AB-1-BA (Smart Connect).
Xebex Air Bike vs Assault Bike Classic
The Xebex Air Bike is very similar to the air Assault Bike.
Both have several tiers of air bikes but I’ll just compare the base model of these two.
Frame
Both frames are nearly identical with some minor differences between them.
Monitor
Both monitors track similar metrics and have built-in programs: Time, distance, calories, watts, speed, RPM.
Price
Historically, the Xebex air bike has been easier on the wallet than the Assault Bike.
As of this writing, the Xebex bike is still cheaper than the air Assault Bike.
Click on the links above to see their current prices.
So with identical frames and features, price will be the determining factor for most people.
Is An Air Bike Better Than A Treadmill?
I’ve been on many treadmills and air bikes feel more challenging to me.
Yes, some treadmills like my Feier Stair 1000 treadmill have incline and speed settings which increase the intensity.
I’d say that the Xebex rower is more challenging than a treadmill.
If you prefer steady state cardio over HIIT, a treadmill may be a better option for you.
But there’s no comparison when both my upper and lower body are going against resistance at the same time like with an air bike.
Are Air Bikes Worth It?
If you like to challenge yourself and do HIIT cardio, absolutely!
Air bikes are excellent when you’re short on time and want to burn lots of calories quickly.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- HIIT cardio: Great way to do high intensity cardio that will leave you gasping for air
- Low impact: Air bikes are easy on the joints so if you have difficulty running or walking, this is a great option
- Compact: The Xebex air bike doesn’t take up a lot of space which is always a concern in a garage gym
- Programs: Built-in programs give you options for different air bike workouts
- Track workouts: Monitor displays exactly the time, distance, calories, RPM, watts, and speed you’re using every workout
Cons
- Air flow: Air blowing off the fan can sometimes dry my mouth and sucks during winters so that’s where the wind cover comes in handy
- Beat down: If you despise workouts that beat you down, you’re gonna love to hate this bike 🙂
Where To Buy The Xebex Air Bike
Xebex bikes are currently sold on the GetRxd website.
They used to be on Rogue’s website also but I don’t see them there anymore.
Xebex Air Bike Warranty
With a Xebex air bike you get a 5 year warranty on the frame and 2 year warranty on non-wear parts.
Xebex Air Bike Review
I like the Xebex air bike because it’s a quality bike that’s built to last.
It has a solid steel frame, it’s chain driven, and can tolerate heavy use.
And with a reputation for beating everyone who uses it, you’re guaranteed a killer workout.
The more I push and pull, the harder the resistance gets.
Get ready to get your ass kicked.
