XMaster competition bumper plates are new to the home gym market but boy did they do a great job with them.
They’re made of virgin rubber for durability, have a smaller than average thickness (fit more on the bar), and have a low bounce.
One thing in particular that I like about these bumper plates is the knurled edges that make it easier to pick them off the floor.
Let’s check them out!
Unboxing
I picked up the 320 lbs weight set that comes with a pairs of 25s, 35s, 45s, and 55s bumpers.
Each bumper plate comes in its own individual box.
Each competition bumper plate comes wrapped in packing paper to reduce scratches.
I’m impressed at how solid these bumpers look.
No rubber smell to them, raised contrast lettering, chrome coated center disc, and knurled edges which I’ve never seen on plates before.
And here’s what all of them look like.
I really like the lime green on the 25’s which is a different shade than the one on my ProSourcefit bumpers.
Speaking of my other competition bumpers, I like the look of XMaster’s better.
XMaster colors are matte (no shine) and have raised lettering (not painted on).

Virgin Rubber Bumper Plates
XMaster’s competition bumper plates are made of virgin rubber which is very durable.
And with a durometer rating of 90, these bumpers will not bounce much if you drop them when doing Olympic lifts or CrossFit.
With virgin rubber being shock absorbing, it protects my floor and makes less noise when dropped.
I liked the raised contrast lettering used on these plates because it gives the number and words a 3-D look that makes them pop.
Center Disc Insert
The center disc is chrome coated so it should prevent rust even in a garage gym environment where it can get humid.
One side of the disc has 6 hex bolts.
And the other side is plain.
The center hole fits nicely around my barbell sleeves so there is no noticeable wobble.
Knurled & Angled Edges
I really like what XMaster did with the edges on these bumper plates.
They’re angled but also knurled which makes it a lot easier to pick up when they’re flat on the floor.
The knurling is easier to see on the lighter colored plates but here’s what it looks like on all of them.
With the angled edges I’m able to get my finger tips under the plate.
And the knurling gives me some grip making it easier to lift the plates up.
These are much easier to lift then their chrome weight plates which are completely flat.
I set my ProsourceFit competition bumper plates (left) next to Xmaster’s (right) and the difference on the edges is clear.
Prosourcefit’s edge is smooth and curved which gets slippery with sweaty hands, while Xmaster’s is angled and knurled.
Size
Because these competition bumpers are made with dense virgin rubber, they’re less wide than regular bumper plates.
This means I can fit more competition bumper plates on a barbell than if I was using regular bumper plates.
