Yosuda Dragonfly Rower Review

The Yosuda Dragonfly rower combines air and magnetic resistance into a foldable rowing machine.

One thing that caught my eye was that the handle bar has resistance adjustment options which I’d never seen in any rowers I’ve tested.

It’s chain driven, has a seat made out of premium foam, and made out of aluminum and steel so I can’t wait to test out how it glides.

Let’s dig in!

Unboxing

Everything came in one box and was very well packaged with styrofoam blocks on all sides.

Here’s everything out of the box.

Not many pieces to put together so assembly didn’t take very long (about 20 minutes).

Here are the two halves assembled, now all I have to do is connect them in the middle.

I do like that they split it in half to cut down the space it takes up when I’m not using it.

Under the rail there’s a groove that connects to the other half of the rower.

And that falls right into this metal rod that’s in between the pedals.

It’s easy to set up and there’s nothing to screw or knobs to tighten.

Here it is all put together and yes it’s long (94″) like most rowing machines so if you’re looking into buying a rower, make sure you have space for it.

What Is The Yosuda Dragonfly Rower?

The Yosuda Dragonfly rower is a dual resistance rowing machine with air resistance and 8 levels of magnetic resistance.

It functions as good as other top tier rowing machines but it does not have an attached display monitor and I don’t see that as a bad thing…

Unless you’re into CrossFit or competitive rower, you probably won’t use a digital display console anyway.

Most people (including myself) use a phone to watch some form of entertainment while rowing or watch follow along exercise videos on YouTube.

Top Benefits Of The Yosuda Dragonfly Rower

Smooth Motion

The seat glides smoothly and the chain moves in a fluid motion so as far as motion goes, it glides like butter.

There’s several hard plastic rollers under the seat and they roll on the rail flawlessly.

No jerky sensation or side to side tilt.

Dual Resistance

Here’s what the flywheel looks like.

I noticed there’s no damper on it to control airflow but that’s not a big deal because I control the intensity by how hard I pull.

As soon as I start rowing, the flywheel works without having to connect the Dragonfly to an electrical outlet.

But if I want to add magnetic resistance, then I have to plug the Dragonfly rower into the wall.

The electrical cord plugs in to the front of the flywheel.

Once it’s plugged in, I can increase or decrease magnetic resistance by pushing the ( + ) or ( – ) buttons on the middle of the handlebar.

I like the placement of the buttons because I don’t have to stop rowing to change magnetic resistance.

Right below the chain, there’s 9 circular lights that activate when the rower is plugged in.

The blue light tells me that magnetic resistance is activated.

And the white lights tell me the magnetic resistance level I’m on (4 white lights are on when I’m on level 4).

When I’m done using it, I separate both halves and I can store the longest piece vertically so it doesn’t take up a ton of my garage gym space.

Best Features Of The Yosuda Dragonfly Rower

Handlebar

The handlebar is rubber dipped so it feels good and I have no issues with it slipping even when I pull with high intensity.

I like that it’s slightly angled so when I’m at the finish phase of the stroke, I have a little bit of extra room where the bar doesn’t hit my torso.

And like I showed you earlier, the magnetic resistance buttons make it easy to add or take off resistance with my thumbs without having to stop rowing.

Chain Drive

For durability purposes, I prefer chain drive over belt drive rowers.

I’ll have to lubricate it once a year but that takes a minute to do so it’s worth it.

Comfortable Seat

The seat foam is thick and made out of very comfortable dense foam that feels similar to the foam AbMat uses in their products.

It’s contoured and has indentations for my legs and in the tailbone area.

Seat comfort is important especially if you row for long distances so it’s good that Yosuda didn’t skimp out on the seat quality.

Adjustable Pedals

The pedals are made of hard flexible plastic so they can bend with my feet while I’m rowing.

They’re adjustable in length and also have an adjustable velcro strap so they’re one size fits all.

Adjusting the length of the pedals is easy…

I lift the front end, then slide it up or down to the size that works best for me.

Then I set the plastic down so that the protruding circles fit into the holes that keep it in place.

The backside of the pedals bend with my feet so it feels natural when I’m on the ball of my feet during the recovery phase of the stroke.

And here’s what it looks like when my feet are strapped in.

Heel strap and forefoot strap keep my feet secure at all times and it do so in a comfortable way.

Device Holder

The adjustable device holder makes it easy to secure my phone or tablet.

I mainly use it to have some background noise while I’m rowing but if you want to track metrics, there’s free fitness apps that can be used.

is the yosuda dragonfly rower worth it

I don’t track the metrics when I’m rowing so I see this as a good option for people who want a quality rower but don’t care about the electronics.

This works just as good as similar rowers without having to pay a high ticket.
