The Exponent Edge Calf Blast bundle is a combo of an adjustable calf raise block and unique J-cups for barbell calf raises.
I don’t know about you, but I always lose my balance when I get a full stretch doing barbell calf raises…
With the Calf Cups, my barbell is enclosed so I can’t tip back and I can concentrate on working out my calves instead of losing my balance.

Although Exponent Edge does have the option to get the Calf Cups and Flex Wedge separately, I got the bundle.
Both of these products are more than a one-trick pony so I know I can use them for more than just calf raises.
I’ll break down each product and show you how I use them in my garage gym.
Exponent Edge Calf Cups Set
This is one of those products that make you say, “why didn’t I think of that”?
Exponent Edge added a detachable enclosed chamber and turned sandwich cups into Calf Cups.
I took them off my weight rack to show you a close up of all the pieces that make up the Calf Cups.
Here’s the top half of the Calf Cups.
Each hook is made out of a metal center that’s surrounded with UHMW plastic on both sides with a pin and a metal lanyard.
I like that the UHMW plastic sticks out further than the metal hook to protect my barbells from metal to metal contact.
Sandwich Cups
Here’s a look at both sides of the J-cups.
The inside is also lined with UHMW plastic to give it a snug fit around my weight rack and prevent scratches.
And here’s what the top of the Calf Cups looks like.
There’s a hole on the top and bottom of the J-cup to insert the hook.
Converting To Calf Cups
After I insert the hook through the top and bottom holes of the J-cup, it’s time to lock it in place.
I insert the pin through the bottom of the hook to prevent it from coming off just in case I hit the top of the hook with my barbell.
And here’s the final set up.
Now my barbell is free to move and down kinda like a Smith machine and I don’t have to worry about falling back when doing barbell standing calf raises.
If I do happen to lose my balance, the top hook is there to keep the bar in place so I can keep going through my set uninterrupted.
Since I got the Exponent Edge Calf Blast bundle, I use the Calf Cups in combination with the Flex Wedge.
I don’t own a calf block so this works out and since it’s adjustable, I can use it in many ways (I’ll show you that later).
When I’m done working out calves, I can remove the top hook and use the J-cups for any barbell exercise.
Versatility is something I always look for in home gym equipment so I can get the most bang for my buck.

Top Benefits of The Calf Cups
For me, the main benefit of using the Calf Cups is that I can go heavy on barbell calf raises without worrying about falling back.
This way I can concentrate on getting full range of motion on my calves knowing that my bar is secure at all times.
Best Features Of The Exponent Edge Calf Cups
Enclosed Chamber
My favorite feature of the Calf Cups is the enclosed chamber.
This eliminates any balance issues while I’m doing heavy barbell calf raises and since it’s lined with plastic, it won’t damage my bar if I happen to hit it.
Sandwich Cups
And of course, I can remove the top hook and use it as a sandwich cup that’s also lined with UHMW plastic so my barbells are fully protected all around.
Exponent Edge Flex Wedge
The Flex Wedge is an adjustable slant board / calf block with 6 different angles so I can use it for plenty of exercises.
Here’s a close up view of the platform so you can see the diamond plated surface with the Exponent Edge logo laser cut in the center.
The platform is held at different angles by two pins that insert on both sides of the Flex Wedge.
For the steepest incline setting, I just remove the pins and let the platform rest on its base.
From this view you can see 5 holes that are angled in 10 degree increments.
The sample I currently have is a prototype and the actual product will have one more hole at the bottom (total of 6).
I like having these angle options because I can use this for more than just one thing.
I lifted the platform here to give you a glimpse of where the pin inserts into.
There’s also a cut out handle on each so it’s easier to carry around.
Once both pins are in, this is what it looks like.
One thing I’d like to see, is for the cord that holds the pins to be made out of metal like the lanyards on the Calf Cups.
That would make them more durable than the coiled cords currently on them.
Flex Wedge Specs
- Weight: 33 lbs
- Weight capacity: 1000 lbs
- Dimensions: 20″ L x 13.8″ D x 6.9″ H
- Angle increments: Can be used as a flat platform and as a slant board with 5 angles in 10 degree increments
Top Benefits of the Flex Wedge
Aside from the Flex Wedge having a 1000 lbs weight capacity, the main benefit it is that I can use it at many angles for several exercises.
Versatility is something I always look for before bringing new equipment into my garage gym.
Best Features of The Exponent Edge Flex Wedge
Exercises Using The Flex Wedge
Prior to owning the Flex Wedge, I used to stack two piles of bumper plates on top of each other to use as a platform.
The Flex Wedge sits perfectly below my barbell once it’s loaded with plates so I can get good range of motion when doing landmine rows.
As a side note, the Exponent Edge landmine jack makes it effortless to I to load and unload plates with a landmine setup.
With this set up I can use a variety of handles but my favorite is using the UClips since set up takes a second and I can bring my elbows far back.
With the pins taken out, I turn the Flex Wedge into a slant board.
From here I can use it for several exercises like calf stretches…
Heel elevated goblet squats (Cyclist squats) so I can focus on my quads.
I can also use this for Knees Over Toes Guy Program exercises like ATG split squats.
And landmine hack squats…
As you can see, I can do many exercises with this platform because of its adjustability.
When I set it as a flat platform I can do calf raises…
Reverse step ups…
And any deficit exercise like deficit reverse lunges, deficit Bulgarian split squats, deficit deadlifts, etc.
Calf Blast Bundle Alternatives
The closest alternative to the Exponent Edge Calf Blast Bundle is the Bulletproof Versa Trolley System (VTS).
It’s a rack attached trolley system that adds Smith machine functionality to any weight rack.
But it’s also $400 more expensive the Exponent Edge bundle.
