Core Home Fitness Adjustable Dumbbells Review

The Core Home Fitness adjustable dumbbells are unique in the adjustable dumbbell market.

The mechanism in which you adjust weight is different from dumbbells like the Bowflex 552 and PowerBlock, which I’ve reviewed in the past.

The Core Home dumbbells adjusts with the twist of the handle, which makes it very fast to change from one weight to another.

It’s a very neat design and I’ll go over it in detail in this post.

I picked up a pair of the Core Home Fitness dumbbells and the dumbbell stand.

The stand is not necessary since each dumbbell comes with a cradle, but I wanted to set and pick up the weights at thigh level.

The first thing you see when you open the box is the cradle.

The cradle is what holds the weight plates in place and it’s necessary to lock and unlock the dumbbells when changing weight.

After pulling out the cradle, the next layer is the handle (shown in the middle in the pic above) and the weight plates.

The weight plates are stacked on top of each other right next to the handle.

Once out of the box, the dumbbells have a very nice look to them.

The weight plates are made out of steel but coated with a tough layer of high impact PVC.

This outer layer protects the weight plates from rattling, rust, and damage.

The handle is part rubber, part hard plastic.

The middle portion is all rubber and the outer portions are plastic.

Grip feels good and secure and does not slip, even with sweaty hands.

Once you place the weight plates and handle on the cradles, they look like this.

The dumbbells are ready to use once everything is on the cradle.

Dumbbells Stand

The Core Home Fitness adjustable dumbbells stand comes in one box.

You get all the hardware included and easy to follow instructions.

After you build the dumbbells stand, you can attach the cradle to it via four screws.

You can see the four screws on the corners of the black rectangle in the picture above.

Once the cradles are securely attached to the stand, it looks like this.

What I really like is how you have an open area in the middle of the stand.

This lets you keep the dumbbells at your sides at all times and takes pressure off your low back when lifting/lower the weight on to the stand.

Very clever design!

Once the dumbbells are loaded on to the stand, they look like the picture above.

Everything fits tightly and securely.

Weight Increments & Range

Each Core Home Fitness adjustable dumbbell has 5 weight plates on each side.

The weight plate closest to the handle is “U” shaped and weighs 2.5 lbs.

The rest of the weight plates are circular and weigh 5 lbs each.

The handle by itself weighs 5 lbs.

The handle works together with the cradle to make the weight selection possible.

So in order to change weight, everything has to be connected to the cradle.

The dumbbells can be adjusted in increments of 5 lbs.

Starting with the handle (5 lbs), all the way to 50 lbs at the max.

How Do Core Home Fitness Dumbbells Work?

The Core Home Fitness adjustable dumbbells use what’s called Twistlock Technology.

If you look at the bottom of the handle, you’ll see there’s grooves at the ends.

These grooves fit right into teeth that are on the cradle.

You can see the metal teeth in the middle of both black parts that are U-shaped above.

When the handle is on these teeth, they unlock the handle and let you twist it to change weight.

Once you lift the handle off the cradle, it locks the handle preventing it from twisting.

In the pic above I removed the weight plates from one side of the dumbbell so you can see it works.

As you see, the handle is turned to 25 lbs and there’s a rod sticking out from the top of the handle on the empty side.

That rod will pick up only the selected weights and the rest will stay on the cradle.

After turning the handle to 50 lbs, you can see the rod is sticking out even further.

That will pick up every weight plate from the cradle.

Are Core Home Adjustable Dumbbells Safe?

Yes, they’re safe!

Once the selected weight is off the cradle, the handle locks in place.

There is no way for the handle to turn and release the weights.

You don’t have to worry about any weight plates falling on you while exercising.

Are Core Home Fitness Adjustable Dumbbells Worth It?

When you consider the fact that you’re getting the equivalent of a whole rack of dumbbells and they don’t take a lot of space…

At less than $400, yes they are well worth the price.

When you compare the cost of buying a set of dumbbells and the cost of an adjustable dumbbell pair, the adjustable dumbbells still come out to be a better deal.

See the prices from three different popular fitness brands below.

All the dumbbell sets compared range from 5 – 50 lbs and go up in 5 lbs increments.

You’ll see that adjustable dumbbells still come out on top.

Core Fitness vs Rogue Fitness Hex Dumbbells Set

If you look at the price of Rogue Fitness dumbbells, you can see that the 5 – 50 lbs set goes over $1000 and that doesn’t even include the shipping costs.

And yes, Rogue is usually more expensive, so let’s look at other more affordable companies.

Core Fitness vs Titan Fitness Hex Dumbbells Set

Titan Fitness is known for having very affordable prices and their set of dumbbells even comes with a rack.

But even their price is still just shy of $1000.

Core Fitness vs Rep Fitness Hex Dumbbells Set

Another affordable company is Rep Fitness.

Their set of 5 – 50 lbs hex dumbbells is $949.

I hope you see where I’m going with this.

The adjustable dumbbells are a no-brain for a home gym.

They cost less and take up very little space.

Where To Buy With Coupon

You can find the Core Home Fitness adjustable dumbbells on Core Home Fitness’ website or Amazon.

From time to time, you can find them discounted on either site.
