Exponent Edge Curl Bar Review

The Exponent Edge curl bar is a rackable curl bar that’s not designed like other EZ curl bars.

EZ curl bars have a W shape in the shaft but not this one…

This curl bar is available in two lengths: 46″ and 49″, both have a 30 degree angle (almost like a short camber bar).

Aside from curls, I’ll show one of my favorite exercises I do with the Edge curl bar.

Let’s check it out!

Unboxing

When I got the box open, I could see one of the sleeves was bubble wrapped.

Slid the whole bar out and it’s completely covered.

And here’s the Edge curl bar fully naked.

Beautiful black sleeves and Cerakote shaft.

There’s the 30 degree angle I told you about, which is different than regular EZ curl bars you’re used to.

Features

The sleeves on the Edge curl bar have a shiny black coat on them.

They’re chrome and coated with Titanium.

Each one is 10.5″ long so there’s plenty of room to load it up.

The end cap has the Exponent Edge logo on it.

Working my way into the shaft, you can see the outer knurling.

It’s medium knurling so it’s not too passive nor too aggressive which I like.

The curve on the bar is knurled and has a 30 degree angle.

This feels good on my 44 year old wrists when doing any type of curl.

And the center of the shaft has two knurl marks.

I like using this part for skull crushers and close grip bench press.

And of course, on the ends of the shaft you can see the where the bushings go.

Here’s the shaft so you can see where all the knurl marks are.

edge curl bar vs ez curl bar

Here’s a comparison between the Edge curl bar and my GetRxd rackable curl bar.

Knurl marks are in similar spots in the middle except for the outer knurling (GetRxd doesn’t have outer knurling).

And you can see the straight middle on the Exponent Edge bar versus the curved middle on the GetRxd bar.

Exercises With The Exponent Edge Curl Bar

exponent edge curl bar seal rows

My favorite non-curl exercise with this bar is seal rows.

I use the Bulletproof Isolator seat pad as my bench since there’s nothing below it to get in the way of the curl bar.

Because of the angle on the Edge bar, I’m able to bring my elbows back further so I get a better contraction on my back muscles.

From this view you can see how the angle helps to avoid contact with the bottom of the pad.

If I wanted to add more range of motion, I could also add my Kensui Swissies to the bar.

And of course the curl bar is for all types of curls.

For regular bicep curls, I place my palm facing up on the angle of the bar.

exponent edge ez curl bar

Keeping my wrist in this semi-supinated angle helps to reduce pressure on my wrist joint.

This way I’m still able to keep curling without having any pain like I do with a straight barbell.

exponent edge curl bar reverse curls

If I wanna do reverse curls or barbell shoulder raises then I place my hands the opposite way.

Palms facing down on the angle of the bar.

When I’m doing shoulder raises, keeping this small angle change on my wrists also feels better on my shoulders.

It keeps my shoulders slightly externally rotated.

And here’s what it looks like when I use that same grip for reverse bicep curls.

exponent edge preacher curl bar

To finish it off with an isolation movement, I pull up my weight bench, AbMat preacher pad, and do my preacher curls.

exponent edge curl bar skull crushers

If I’m doing triceps, I love hitting the long head of the triceps with skull crushers.

For this exercise I grab the curl bar on the center of the bar’s shaft, right inside the angles.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Rackable: Loading and unloading the Edge rackable curl bar is easier on J-cups than on the floor
  • Joint friendly: Less stress on my wrists than curling with a straight barbell
  • Versatile: Can be used for more than just curls (seal rows, skull crushers, front shoulder raises)
  • Range of motion: Angle on the bar gives me extra range of motion when doing rows so I can get a bigger back contraction
  • Finish: Cerakote finish keeps the bar from rusting especially in garage gym environments where there’s high humidity

Cons

  • Sleeves: Coating on sleeves may get scratched over time but that’s just a cosmetic issue, won’t affect the function of the bar

Exponent Edge Curl Bar Review

exponent edge rackable ez curl bar

I like what Exponent Edge has done with this curl bar.

This gives me the same functionality as an EZ curl bar plus I can use it as a seal row bar to get a bigger squeeze in my back.

It’s rackable so it’s easy to load/unload and my wrists love the 30 angle on it.

  1. What about a cambered Swiss bar? I’ve been thinking of getting one. I already have an ez curl. I feel like the Swiss bar can give you more with the different handles. And that it is also cambered, like this one. I’m waiting on Black Friday sales for the cambered Swiss bar.. and/or a SSB bar. But I think the Swiss bar would be more used and is more useful

  2. I have an ez curl bar, it was really affordable, Amazon/Walmart buy, nothing more to it.

I may have gotten this EE bar had I not bought that already, but it is also a lot more $$. I think the only advantage this EE has to an EZ is the depth for seal rows (which I just learned of, and there are other ways to do them without this bar, and cambered bench, which is something I’ve been looking into a Swiss bar, for)

Given this, I think I would enjoy the different handles and widths of a Swiss camber, along with what I already have. And I can still do seal rows with the Swiss camber.

And yes, they’ve started since yesterday. Did you pre order the Rep adjustable DBS? I’m eyeing their adjustable KBs also.

In your mind, if you only had one, would you have went with SZ, EE or a Swiss camber?

  3. Actually, I have heard no one likes BoS after they get it. REP or Fringe. That’s what I’ll be looking for during Black Friday. It’s more versatile than the EE Curl bar and about the same price

    1. I like that the Exponent Edge curl bar is a little bit wider than the EZ curl bar I have, so it feels better on my elbows when doing skull crushers.

Also, the Edge bar is rackable so it’s more convenient when starting/ending a set than when using a regular EZ curl bar (unless you have a rackable EZ curl bar of course).
