Synergee Rhino Powerlifting Barbell Review

The Synergee Fitness Rhino barbell looks great in Cerakote black.

Made for powerlifting, this barbell has a high weight capacity, it’s rigid, has little whip, but still has a smooth spin.

With aggressive knurling, the bar feels secure when lifting heavy, but doesn’t hurt your hand.

Let’s check it out!

The barbell came in a in a thick cardboard tubing with hard plastic end caps tough enough to survive shipping.

Once out of the cardboard tube, the Rhino is wrapped in an anti-corrosion bag.

Bushings

The Synergee Rhino powerlifting barbell is different from their Open, Regional, and Games barbells.

It is more stiff, has less flex, and is made with bushings rather than bearings.

This is because you don’t need the whip and extra spin for powerlifting moves.

Cerakote Finish

The shaft of the Synergee Rhino barbell is a Cerakote coated barbell (fancy word for ceramic coating).

This helps to protect the barbell from getting rusty especially in humid environments like garage gyms.

Sleeves

The sleeves are 16.4″ long and have a black phosphate finish.

Each sleeve is 50mm in diameter.

I like that there’s very little wiggle with my competition bumper plates on the sleeves.

Volcanic Knurling

The Rhino bar has volcanic knurling which is aggressive.

Not as aggressive as a Pointy Mountain knurl pattern but the one step down.

For most training styles (especially powerlifting), Volcano knurling is gonna make the most sense.

Knurls Marks

There’s two powerlifting knurl marks for your hands.

Here’s a side view of one of them.

And here’s a view from the top.

And of course you have your center knurling to prevent the bar from slipping off your traps when doing squats.

Weight Capacity

With a weight capacity of 1500 lbs, the Rhino is gonna be all you need if you’re human.

What I Like About The Synergee Rhino Barbell

The Rhino is similar to the Rogue Ohio Power bar minus the price.

This is a budget version of the Rogue Ohio power bar ($279 vs $355).

I also like the knurling on the Rhino.

It’s aggressive but not hand cutting aggressive.

Gives it a great feel during lifts.

And I like the black cerakote finish on the shaft.

What I Don’t Like

The black phosphate finish on the sleeves does protect it from corrosion.

But because there’s constant contact with weight plates, you can see a lot of scuff marks on them.

Of course this is just cosmetic, it doesn’t affect the performance of the bar.

Chrome sleeves like the ones on the Titan SSB would be better, but again, this is just aesthetic.

Synergee Rhino Powerlifting Barbell Review

The Synergee Rhino barbell is becoming one of my favorite powerlifting barbells.

It’s tough, looks great with the black Cerakote finish, and has awesome knurling.

I could do without the scuff marks on the sleeves but that just tells me I’m putting it to use.

Great bar at a great price.
