HGG Performance IsoTib Bar Review

In this HGG Performance IsoTib Bar review I’ll give you a close up look at this beast.

With a regular tib bar you’re limited to plantar and dorsiflexion (pointing feet down and up).

The IsoTib bar lets your isolate each ankle while working through its full range of motion.

This way you exercise your ankle through every plane of motion (plantar flexion, dorsiflexion, eversion, inversion, and circles).

HGG Performance went out of business so the IsoTib is no longer available at their website.

Check out the Tib Bar Guy Solo Tib Bar as an alternative by clicking the red button below.

Unboxing

hgg performance isotib bar review

The IsoTib bar comes in a travel bag with HGG Performance branding.

HGG stands for Home Gym Guys (former company name).

Inside the bag there’s three things.

A stainless steel sleeve, the IsoTib, and a weight clamp.

First Impression

As soon as I took the items out of the bag, first thing I noticed was the quality of the equipment.

The IsoTib bar has laser cut engraving, feels solid, and is beautifully built.

The stainless steel sleeve looks great next to the black IsoTib.

Assembly

Assembling the IsoTib bar takes one step.

The bottom of the IsoTib has a threaded hole.

This is where the weight plate sleeve screws in.

The underside of the sleeve has a welded bolt that screws right into the IsoTib.

Turn it clockwise and you’re ready to use it.

Features

Foam Pads

The top of the IsoTib has two foam pads that taper towards the middle.

These pads sit on top of your foot to cushion the load when you have weight on the bar.

Adjustable Foot Clamp

The IsoTib is adjustable so it can fit your foot regardless of your shoe size/width.

You can adjust the width of the IsoTib by turning the chrome knob on the side.

In the pic above you can see the IsoTib is opened up to fit a wider foot.

The foam pads are not touching at the middle.

Here’s a view of the IsoTib when it’s tightened.

You can see the foam pads touching at the middle and a more narrow width.

Loading Sleeve

The loading is detachable to make traveling easier.

It’s 7.5″ long and made out of stainless steel.

Compatible with Olympic plates and Competition 2″ plates.

How to Use the HGG Performance IsoTib Bar

Using the IsoTib bar is straight forward and easy to set up.

Remove the clamp from the loading sleeve.

Insert a weight plate then clamp it down.

Insert your foot all the way inside the IsoTib and tighten the device by turning the knob clockwise until it’s snug around your foot.

Once it feels secure and you can move your ankle without the IsoTib falling off, you’re ready to roll!

IsoTib Bar Benefits

Train In All Ranges Of Motion

With a regular tib bar, you have both feet connected so you’re only able to plantar flex and dorsiflex the ankle.

The HGG Performance IsoTib Bar lets you move the ankle in any direction.

This lets you strengthen you ankles and shins from multiple angles.

hgg performance isotib bar

You can do eversion of the ankle to target the tibialis anterior muscle.

hgg performance isotib bar

Plantar flexion to train the tibialis anterior eccentrically (controlling the weight on the way down).

hgg performance isotib bar

Eversion of the ankle (moving the foot outward).

hgg performance isotib bar

Inversion of the ankle (moving the foot inward).

You can also work the ankle in clockwise and counter-clockwise circles (circumduction) to strengthen all ranges of motion.

Quads, Hamstrings, & Hip Flexors

Aside from strengthening the ankles and shins, the IsoTib can be used to strengthen the whole lower body.

You can it for unilateral leg extensions, leg curls, and hanging leg raises for your hip flexors.

HGG also recently launched the IsoTib LT single leg tib bar where they added a heel hoop and adjustable loading bar.

HGG Performance IsoTib Bar Review

I like the IsoTib bar more than I thought I would.

It really isolates each ankle so you can strengthen them from all angles.

You can adjust the IsoTib and get it to where it fits nice and snug around your foot.

It’ll strengthen your ankles to reduce the risk of ankle sprains, improves ankle mobility, and builds your tibialis anterior muscles to prevent shin splints.

And you can also use it to train hip flexors with hanging leg raises, quads with leg extensions, and hamstrings with leg curls.
