IFAST Fitness Trap Bar Review

I had been looking for a reason to get another specialty bar and I finally pulled the trigger on the IFAST Fitness trap bar.

Don’t get me wrong, I love using my Titan Fitness safety squat bar but it was time to test something else.

The IFAST Fitness hex bar is sturdy, has a high weight capacity, and I love that it’s all black.

Here’s my review on it.

Unboxing the Trap Bar

The IFAST Fitness hex trap bar comes in one big box fully assembled.

It came wrapped in plastic and protected by styrofoam.

The packaging did its job because I didn’t see a single scratch on it.

The ends of the sleeves even came protected with a plastic cap.

This was a good idea on IFAST Fitness’ part because many times barbells can puncture through the packaging and get scratched.

Inside the box you also get a pair of spring collars to keep your weight plates secure.

Specs

  • Material – Steel
  • Loadable sleeve length – 10″
  • Weight capacity – 1000 lbs
  • Total bar length – 56″
  • Plate compatibility – Works with Olympic sized weight plates
  • Bar weight – 51 lbs

Features

Two grip positions – The hex bar has a low and high handle to vary the depth of your squat stance.

Knurling – 2mm knurling is not too passive or too aggressive.

The picture above shows the hex bar with the raised handle facing up which makes your starting point easier.

With the raised handle facing down, now you can use the low handle.

This makes your starting point lower so it becomes more difficult to start the deadlift.

Benefits of the Trap Bar

There are many benefits to using a trap bar and I’ll go over some of them here.

Less Stress On Your Low Back

With a regular barbell you put more stress on your lower back and posterior chain since the bar is in front of you.

This can be a potential risk factor if you don’t have good form or are currently suffering from low back pain.

With a trap bar, you’re able to keep your back in a more straight position and shift more of the load to your hips and legs.

Adjustable Height

One of the biggest benefits of using a trap bar over a regular barbell is you have the option to choose high or low handles.

Most beginners will start with the high handle and as they get better with their form, move to the lower handle which is the same height as a regular barbell.

Saves Your Shins

With regular barbell deadlifts, you want to keep the bar as close to your body as possible.

This means your shins can sometimes get scraped and beat up.

With a trap bar, you don’t have that problem.

Trap Bar Exercises

Even though the IFAST Fitness trap bar is meant for deadlifting, you can use it for many more exercises.

Here’s a list of some exercises:

  • Shoulder Press
  • Push press
  • Jump squats
  • Deadlifts (low and high)
  • Farmer walks
  • Suit case walks
  • Push ups
  • Shoulder shrugs
  • Squats

IFAST Fitness Trap Bar Review

Overall I really like this trap bar.

It has a high weight capacity that most human beings will never surpass.

The double handle height gives you options to start low or high, especially if you have lower back problems.

And it can be used for multiple exercises giving it a lot of versatility.

Plus it comes with a two year warranty giving you plenty of time to beat it up.
