Mikolo Lateral Raise Machine Review

The Mikolo lateral raise machine is a rack attachment that lets me isolate every head on my deltoids.

I like using this attachment cause I can slow down the exercises and have full control without swinging or cheating reps with momentum.

Set up is a breeze and I like having the option to replicate commercial gym equipment without taking up a lot of space in my garage gym.

Let’s check it out!

Unboxing

Here’s everything out of the box.

There’s not a lot of parts so I didn’t take very long to put it all together.

I received a broken knob that was damaged during transit so I reached out to Mikolo and they sent out a new knob without any questions asked.

Kudos to Mikolo for the fast, no questions asked way they handled it through their customer service.

Set Up

Setting up the rack attachment was straight forward…

I inserted the pin through the back of my PRx rack until it came out through the front.

By the way, this will work with any rack that has a 1″ hole.

Then I inserted the threaded knob 3 holes below that and locked it in place with a nut in the back.

Here’s what the front looks like once I got it secured.

I have the pin going through the hole on top and the knob a few holes below.

Here it is fully assembled on my weight rack.

Real easy set up so it’s ready to use in less than a minute.

What Is The Mikolo Lateral Raise Machine?

The Mikolo standing lateral raise machine is a smaller version of a commercial gym machine.

It’s a rack attachment so it’s perfect in a home gym setting where space utilization is crucial.

With this machine I can do lateral raises, front raises, and rear delt flys to hit all of my deltoid heads.

I tried doing chest flys but the arms that extend horizontally touch at the top, so I can’t get full range of motion.

Top Benefits of the Lateral Raise Machine

Form

With the machine arms being fixed, I always move in the same path so my form stays the same even when I’m getting fatigued.

Isolation

This really isolates my deltoids which helps when my focus is hypertrophy and it can be helpful in a rehab setting as well.

Best Features of The Mikolo Lateral Raise Rack Attachment

Ball Bearings

The side lateral raise machine has ball bearing in 4 places that allow it to move smoothly.

First, there’s ball bearings on each arm so that I can move them sideways without restrictions.

And second, there’s ball bearings on each handle so that I can move it front to back.

All joints move easily without any jerky motions.

Handles

I like that the handles have a rubber grip to them and that they’re long.

This lets me position my hands at different angles so that I can work all three heads of my deltoids.

When I’m doing side lateral raises I like to grab the handle in the middle.

mikolo lateral raise machine pros and cons

For front raises I like to grab more towards the end of the handle.

Detachable Sleeves

I use the Olympic sized sleeves on the arms but they’re detachable for people who own Standard sized weight plates (1″ center hole).

The sleeve can be easily screwed on/off with an Allen wrench.

Mikolo Lateral Raise Machine Alternatives

If you’re looking for a dedicated side lateral raise machine, Titan has a plate loaded seated lateral side / shoulder press combo.

This will take up more space than the Mikolo rack attachment but you won’t have to worry about setting it up or taking it off the rack.

My Experience Using the Mikolo Lateral Raise Rack Attachment

is the mikolo lateral raise machine worth it

I like that I’m on a guided path so my form is more strict than when I use dumbbells or a cable machine.

Can’t really use momentum as easily to cheat the weight up so I can really isolate my deltoids.

Because these are isolation exercises, I have to use small weight increments so you’ll see me using fractional weight plates often.

Here’s how I do standing front raises.

And for rear delt reverse flys I pull up a weight bench…

Or I can use the Infinity Arm.

More times than not, I go with this option since it takes up less space.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Isolation: Really isolates the three heads of the deltoids
  • Space saving: Takes up less space than a dedicated lateral raise machine
  • Set up: Takes less than 30 seconds to set up
  • Smooth: Ball bearings on both the arms and handles give it a smooth side to side motion
  • Stable: Once I screw the knob, there’s no wobble

Cons

  • Rack compatibility: Only fits 1″ holes so it won’t work with racks that have 5/8″ holes
  • Storage: Unless you keep it on your rack all the time, you’ll have to find a place to store it when not in use
