Ankle Straps for Cable Machine SYL Fitness Review Glute Kickback Straps

Ankle Straps for Cable Machine

I know ankle straps for cable machine workouts aren’t that sexy if you’re a guy…

But the butt you’ll get from doing isolated accessory exercises combined with compound moves will be.

And because these ankle straps have a front and rear attachment loop, you can also use them for lying hamstring curls.

Let’s check out these straps from SYL Fitness.

These ankle straps are different from ones that wrap around your ankle only.

They wrap around your foot instead.

You have a strap on the front, back, and bottom of the foot all connected at the center by a metal loop.

This feels secure and prevents the ankle strap from sliding up your leg.

Features

Non-slip Design

The ankle straps have a bottom strap that prevents them from sliding up your leg.

Tighten up the strap around your heel and that sucker’s not going anywhere.

Secure Buckle

The buckle makes the ankle straps adjustable and keeps the straps in place.

Velcro straps are faster to put on than a buckle but they will wear out faster over time.

Double Attachment Points

Adding a double loop to the ankle straps was a smart move by SYL Fitness.

After the strap is secure around your foot, all you have to do is hook a carabiner to whatever side you wanna use.

This also prevents the ankle strap from spinning around your leg.

Here you can see me using the front loop.

And here’s a view of the back loop being used.

How to Put On Ankle Straps

Putting on the ankle straps is easy.

Loosen the buckle, stick your foot in, and tighten it back up.

You should have a loop in the front.

And the other in the back with the strap fitting snug around your foot.

Cable Machine Exercises

The most common exercise for ankle straps might be glute kickbacks.

You can do them on a cable machine or using a resistance tube bands like you see above.

I just wrapped the resistance tube around my weight rack and kick back.

You can do the same thing standing but for me it’s easier to do them on the floor so I don’t have to worry about balance.

Other exercises that can be done with these ankle straps are standing hamstring curls and leg extensions on a bench.

The constant tension you get on your hamstrings and quads with bands or cables is insane!

Are these the best ankle straps for cable machine workouts?

I haven’t tried them all but these get the job done if all you’re looking for is cable exercises.

These feel secure and have nowhere to move when you’re exercising.

For a more all around ankle strap that can be used with dumbbells and cable machines, check out the OmniStrap.

Sometimes I use my Bulletproof Isolator if I want to go heavy on glute isolation exercises.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Non-slip: 3 straps around the foot keep them from sliding up your leg
  • Buckle: Easy adjustments and the buckle will last longer than velcro
  • Front/rear attachment loop: Attach a carabiner to the front or back of your foot for different cable machine exercises
  • Price: $15 for the pair
  • Compact: Folds up and doesn’t take up much space

Cons

  • Rivets: The rivets are the weak point. So far they’ve held up but over time they could give depending on the resistance used.

Where To Buy

I got these from Amazon.

A single one sells for $9.99 and the pair sells for $14.99.

It’ll be easier to just buy the pair than having to take one off every time to hit the other leg.

Although I don’t use these for glute kickbacks much, I do love them for hamstring curls.

If you don’t have a dedicated hamstring curl machine this is a cheap alternative.

And it doesn’t matter whether you use the ankle straps with a cable machine or with resistance tubes.

They feel secure and don’t cause any pain on my feet.
