Barbell Landmine Attachment Review

The SYL Fitness barbell landmine attachment has something I haven’t seen in other post landmines.

It has a circular base similar to a loading pin.

Why is this a big deal?

Because a common problem with post landmine attachments is that they don’t work well when doing heavy rows or belt squats.

I’ll show you how this simple addition makes this barbell landmine better for home gym owners.

Let’s dig in!

The barbell landmine attachment came in a rectangular box with the post inserted inside the barbell sleeve.

Here’s what the post (left) and barbell sleeve (right) look detached from each other.

They form a hinge joint at the top with the pin in the pic below.

The pin comes with a lanyard and a clip that locks the pin in place.

Here’s the SYL barbell landmine attachment with all the pieces connected.

Looks like other post landmine attachments except…

The post has a circular base welded to it just like a loading pin.

This simple addition keeps it anchored down when doing heavy landmine exercises so it doesn’t float off the floor.

I think this is a genius idea by SYL and one that makes the landmine attachment safer (I’ll show you why later on).

SYL Barbell Landmine Attachment Set Up

Setting up the SYL barbell landmine attachment is the opposite of traditional post landmines.

First stand the landmine post up on its base.

Slide an Olympic sized weight plate through the post.

Connect the barbell sleeve and post with the pin and lock it in place to create a hinge joint.

What Is A Landmine Attachment For?

Landmine attachments are a great training tool that can reduce stress on your joints and give you one hell of a workout.

It allows for free movement giving you the ability to perform hundreds of exercises for your upper and lower body.

Barbell Landmine Attachment Types

Post Landmine

A traditional post landmine attachment is a simple hinge joint.

One end is the barbell sleeve and the other end is a post that fits in the center hole of weight plates.

It’s an easy way to anchor a barbell and works great for most landmine exercises.

But the issue with this set up comes when doing heavy barbell rows or belt squats.

The landmine attachment tends to lift up and out of the center hole since there’s nothing holding it down.

So here’s where SYL Fitness innovated with their version of the post landmine.

By adding a circular base around the landmine post, there’s nowhere for the landmine attachment to go with heavy lifts.

This works on both Olympic sized bumper plates and iron weight plates.

From the top it looks just like other post landmine attachments.

Except there’s a removable pin at the hinge joint.

Having to remove the pin is an extra step and takes a few seconds but it allows me to do landmine rows and belt squats safely.

Landmine Attachment for Rack

Rack mounted landmine attachments are very popular because they’re stable and can be left on the rack once mounted.

My favorite is the HGG Performance landmine clamp.

What I like the most about it is that is secures to my weight rack with a screw on bolt.

This makes it easy for me to move it around the upright for exercises like Viking presses versus having it bolted to the rack.

And yes, surprisingly the bolt clamps it down securely to keep it on the upright.

I did pull ups on it to test its grip and it passed.

Wall Mounted Landmine Attachment

If you’re looking for a permanent landmine attachment, here’s one that has a double function.

PRx Performance’s wall mounted landmine attachment goes into a wall stud like my weight rack and most of their space saving products.

The 7-gauge 10″ steel sleeve works with standard Olympic barbells.

It pivots 180 degree horizontal and 90 degree vertical so you have plenty of motion for any landmine exercise

And one thing I like about it is that it also doubles as barbell storage as well.

So when I’m done, I lock it in the vertical position and keep my barbell off the floor.

Landmine Base

Landmine bases are shaped like a baseball home plate so these can be shoved in a corner.

Being shoved in a corner and weighing at least 30 lbs, they’re very stable.

Some even have holes so they can be bolted down to the floor.

The one I’m showing you above even has a loop at the top to use as a battle rope anchor.

Barbell Bomb

abmat barbell bomb

The AbMat Barbell Bomb is a completely different landmine attachment.

It’s made out of AbMat’s famous foam so there’s no metal parts, anything to insert it into, or attach it to.

It grips the floor or whatever surface you’re on while doing your landmine exercises.

I’ve tested the Barbell Bomb on grass, wood, tile, laminate, stall mats, and other surfaces.

And for the majority of exercises it does really good.

Might move a little bit but it’s a great tool that slips right into a barbell without the need for any other equipment.

But for heavy barbell rows and landmine squats, the unloaded end of the barbell does lift up.

DIY Landmine

And of course, you can always DIY a landmine attachment like my buddy Kyle shows in the video above.

Which Is The Best Landmine Attachment?

barbell landmine attachment

Does SYL Fitness make the best landmine attachment?

Not necessarily because that will depend on the type of landmine exercises you do and the weight you use.

If you don’t go very heavy, then a traditional post landmine attachment will work just fine.

There’s also permanent, semi-permanent, and portable solutions that I’ve shared above.

I just really like SYL’s because I can do barbell rows and belt squats safely without it coming off the floor.

I like how SYL made a product that’s useful for home gym owners even better.

The simple addition of a base to the post landmine attachment makes it safer for heavy lifts.

And it only takes a few extra seconds to set it up than with traditional landmine attachments.

I dig it and it’s just another toy I’ll be using in the garage gym.
