DMoose Weight Lifting Straps Review

DMoose weight lifting straps have helped me increase my pulling lifts significantly.

Many consider straps “cheating” but I see it as an aid to improve lifts in ways my own grip won’t allow me to.

When used correctly, you shift the focus to big pulling muscles rather than your fatiguing grip.

I’ll show you how to use these correctly so you can increase your lifts substantially.

What Are Weight Lifting Straps?

Weight lifting straps are an accessory used to connect your hands to your equipment.

This helps you when working with heavy weights or with a lot of sets so you can complete the exercise without worrying about your grip giving up.

You’ll be able to lift heavier for more reps and continue to make progress.

The top part of the straps can be made of leather, nylon, cotton, or other strong material.

One end of the strap has a loop and the other end is just the loose end.

The bottom of the strap has a padding to place on top of your hands/wrist for comfort.

Purpose of Lifting Straps

Eliminates Grip Strength

When it comes to heavy lifts or high volume pulling exercises, your grip will suffer at some point.

Wrist weight lifting straps take your fatiguing grip strength out of the equation so you can focus on your lift.

Heavier Lifts

You can only lift or pull as heavy as your grip allows you.

The weight lifting straps wrap around the bar and help you “grip” the bar without relying on your full grip strength.

DMoose weight lifting straps are made of heavy duty cotton so this ensures that they can withstand heavy lifts.

Hand Protection

Because lifting straps sit between the bar and your hand, you also get hand protection.

This will help you to avoid ripping your hands.

How To Use Weight Lifting Straps

How To Set Up Lifting Straps On Your Wrists

The neoprene padding should be touching the top of your hand.

The loose end of the strap goes in the same direction as your thumb.

Don’t worry about which way the logo on your strap is facing (if there is a logo).

This is what it looks like from the bottom.

Again, the loose end of the weight lifting strap should always be facing your thumb.

How To Set Up On Equipment

Once you have the strap correctly on your wrist, start with your non-dominant hand so you can help with the other hand.

Start wrapping the loose end UNDER the bar.

Wrap it around towards you one or two times using a bike handle throttle like motion.

Make sure to keep it tight at all times so it feels like it’s part of your hand and not just hanging off your wrists.

It’ll work the same way if you use the straps on a pull up bar.

Always start wrapping below the bar and towards you.

Once you wrap it around to your desired tightness, it should look like the picture above.

Note: You don’t need to wrap the whole lifting strap around the bar for it to work.

How NOT to Use

Make sure the strap does NOT face away from your thumb.

If your index or middle finger is touching the strap, you’ve set it up the wrong way.

Take the strap out of the loop and insert it the other way to fix it.

A less common mistake it having the neoprene padding facing up.

Make sure the padding is on top of your hands.

Lifting Straps Mistake

One of the most common mistakes lifters make is using weight lifters straps when they don’t have to.

You should only be using these to aid your lifts, not to completely replace your grip.

They shouldn’t replace your natural grip if you have the strength to perform an exercise.

In other words, if you can lift the weight without your grip giving out, use your hands.

Exercises That Can Benefit From Straps

Deadlifts

Whether you use a trap bar or regular barbell, using lifting straps can help you lift heavier.

Shoulder Shrugs

You can also use the lifting straps on exercises like shoulder shrugs.

Whether you use a barbell or dumbbells for shrugs, the straps work the same way.

Above you can see I’ve wrapped the straps around my Nuobell adjustable dumbbells.

Weighted Pull Ups

When pull ups become too easy and you want to add more weight to your body, straps come in handy.

Throw on a weighted vest and focus all your pulling energy on your lats, not your grip.

Useful With Hand Injuries

A less common use of wrist weight lifting straps is whenever you have injuries that affect your grip.

I personally tore a tendon on my left ring finger and had to keep it in a splint for 6 weeks.

This affected my grip with everything I did.

Using the weight lifting straps helped me to maintain my pulling strength while the injury healed.

Another option is to use weight lifting hooks that don’t require me to grip my equipment.
