Andreoni Focus Straps Review

Summary by Shredded Dad
This review explains Andreoni Focus Straps in plain terms with practical takeaways for home gym owners. Shredded Dad publishes reviews, comparisons, and fitness tools to help people build better garages and train smarter.

The Andreoni Focus Straps solve a problem many home gym owners and lifters don’t even realize is holding them back.

If you’ve ever felt your fingers, grip, or forearms fatigue before the muscles you’re actually trying to train, you’re not alone. Whether it’s tricep extensions, cable curls, face pulls, or overhead tricep extensions, gripping a rope cable attachment can become a limiting factor.

This is where the Andreoni Focus Straps shine and have become one of my favorite cable attachments.

Unlike traditional tricep ropes, these are more like wrist mounted cable cuffs that sit more around my wrists and hand bones and take pressure off my fingers and grip. This way I get a better mind-muscle connection when doing cable exercises instead of focusing on what my hands are feeling.

In this Andreoni Focus Straps review, I’ll show you how they work, who they’re for, the exercises I feel they’re best for, and whether they’re worth adding to your home gym.

Key Takeaways

  • Function like wrist-mounted ankle cuffs than traditional tricep rope attachments
  • Remove most of the grip and finger involvement for upper body cable exercises
  • Improve mind-muscle connection by reducing limiting grip strength distractions
  • Work for single arm and dual arm exercises
  • Excellent alternative to tricep rope exercises

What Are The Andreoni Focus Straps?

what are andreoni focus straps?

Andreoni Focus Straps (from the makers of the Andreoni Bar) are wrist mounted cable attachments made to reduce finger strain during upper body cable machine exercises.

Instead of gripping a traditional triceps rope, the Focus Straps sit around my wrist/hand bones so the weight is shifted away from my fingers and grip.

Best way I can describe them is like ankle cuffs for my wrists.

They let me focus on training the target muscles without worrying about holding on to the handle. I still have the option to hold on to the handle but for many exercises, I don’t have to.

This way I have less grip fatigue, I’m able to have a stronger mind-muscle connection so I can isolate and contract my muscles with more intention.

My Favorite Exercises With The Andreoni Focus Straps

Tricep Extensions

i like using the andreoni focus straps for tricep extensions

Tricep extensions/pushdowns feel great since I don’t have to worry about hanging on to the straps. I can go for a heavy set and get a good burn on my triceps.

Weighted Crunches

Doing weighted crunches also feel really good and this is one where I really have to concentrate on what I’m doing so I don’t hip hinge.

So not having to worry about what my grip is doing helps me really concentrate on feeling my abs doing the work.

Face Pulls

For face pulls, the force on my hands switches to the opposite side, right below my thumb and on my wrist area.

So it eliminates me from having to hang on to the straps and I can focus on squeezing my rear delts and upper traps.

Neutral Grip Cable Curls

Similar hands setup for neutral grip cable curls.

I can go heavy and concentrate on squeezing my biceps without my thumbs being crushed.

Kickbacks

Kickbacks are another one of my favorites with these straps.

Sometimes I even leave my hands open so I can concentrate on my triceps and get a good squeeze at the top of the movement.

Rear Delt Flys

And then there’s rear delt flys. These are one of my favorites to do with the Beyond Power Voltra cable machine because I can increase the eccentric portion and really focus on slowing down the movement so my rear delts feel on fire.

Top Benefits Of The Andreoni Focus Straps

top benefits of the andreoni focus straps

Less Finger and Grip Fatigue

The biggest benefit for me is that I don’t have to focus so much on my grip when I go heavy on cable machine exercises. With the Focus straps resting on my wrists, my grip is no longer a limiting factor.

Mind-Muscle Connection

With grip out of the equation, I can focus on feeling and contracting the muscle I’m working on.

Helps Lifters With Finger Pain/Injuries

If you’re someone who has arthritis, a finger injury, forearm fatigue, or other grip issues, the Focus straps make it possible to keep training around your hand problems.

Best Features Of Andreoni Focus Straps

Durable Material

are the andreoni focus straps durable?

The straps, handles, velcro, and D-rings all feel sturdy. It does have neoprene to cushion the pressure on my hand/wrists and that would be the weakest link but even that feels well made. I can see these lasting a very long time

Wrist Mounted Design

Unlike traditional tricep ropes that rely on my grip strength, these transfer the force to my wrists so my grip limitations don’t get in the way of the muscles I wanna target.

Independent Straps

The Focus Straps aren’t connected so I can use them as a single strap or dual straps. I can use them together for something like tricep extensions or go single hand for exercises like rear delt flys. This gives me more options so I can do more exercises.

Two Lengths In One

Each strap has two straps, each with their own D-rings. There’s a short strap and a longer strap that folds down and velcros to the shorter strap. So I have the option to use both lengths depending on the exercise I’m doing.

For exercises like face pulls, I use the long straps because the handles end up out wide by my shoulders. But for something like kickbacks, I keep them short.

The Focus strap costs right about the same as a triceps rope but in my opinion feels much better.

Andreoni Focus Straps Alternatives

NordStick OmniStrap

The Nordstick OmniStrap is a multi-purpose ankle cuff that I’ve used on my wrists for cable exercises.

Similar to the Focus straps, it takes my grip out of the exercises so I can focus more on the muscles I want to target.

This cuff also has detachable straps that can be used to attach dumbbells to it so it’s an affordable version of the Animal House Monkey Feet boots.

My Hands-On Experience Using The Andreoni Focus Straps

my experience using the andreoni focus straps

I like these straps better than tricep ropes because I don’t have to rely on my grip when doing upper body cable exercises. Yes, they do have handles but I feel they’re there so my hands have something to wrap around.

Since most of the force is transferred to my wrists/carpal bones, I can go heavier on all the exercises I used with a triceps rope and my ability to hang on to the attachment is eliminated so I can see why they named them “focus straps”.

They allow me to focus on the intended muscle groups, not my hands holding on to the attachment.

Final Verdict: Are Andreoni Focus Straps Worth It?

are andreoni focus straps worth it

If you fingers, forearms, or grip strength are limiting your cable machine workouts, these may be one of the most effective accessories you can add to your home gym.

For bodybuilding focused training and better mind muscle connection, they give me an advantage that tricep ropes can’t replicate.

With the force of the cable machine transferred to my wrists, I can go heavy and concentrate on the muscles I want to target without worrying about my grip.

And since they’re not expensive and I can use them for many exercises, they are well worth it.

Frequently Asked Questions About The Andreoni Focus Straps

Are Andreoni straps lifting straps?

No, they’re not the same as traditional weight lifting straps used for deadlifts, rows, or pullups.

They’re a cable machine attachment similar to triceps ropes except they sit to my wrists/hand connection instead of having to rely on my grip to hold on to them.

How do Andreoni Focus Straps work?

The straps sit on my wrists/hand bones and take most of the tension away from my fingers and grip. This way I can focus on the intended muscles rather than my grip.

What exercises can I do with the Andreoni straps?

I’ve used these for many exercises. Here’s a list of the ones I do frequently:

  • Tricep extensions (single or double arm)
  • Tricep kickbacks
  • Rear delt flys
  • Hammer cable curls
  • Face pulls
  • Weighted crunches
  • Straight arm lat pulldowns

Why would I use Andreoni Focus Straps instead of a triceps rope?

Traditional triceps ropes require constant gripping so the weight you lift and form you use, is limited by your grip strength. The Focus Straps reduce the grip demand, so you can focus more on working the intended muscle and less on holding on to the attachment.

What makes the Andreoni straps different from ankle cuffs?

Both products allow me to train without gripping a handle but I like the Focus Straps better because I’m not handcuffed to them so setup and take down is easier than with ankle cuffs.
