Fiix Elbow (Fiix Body) Review

The Fiix Elbow device and program is something I wanted to try to treat my Golfer’s elbow from home.

As a home gym owner and fitness enthusiast, recovery tools are important so I can continue with the day to day grind.

I’ve being doing a lot of pull ups lately and it’s caused pain on the inside of my elbow (medial epicondylitis) that limits what I can grip and pull.

I’ll share how the Fiix Elbow works and how I’ve used it to speed up my recovery.

Unboxing

The Fiix Elbow device came in a travel case so it’s easy to store and take anywhere.

Once I opened up the case, one side had the device, a charger, and an ointment to help reduce friction.

The other side came with instructions and some cards with exercises and the therapy plan.

Here’s everything out of the case.

Now I’ll show you the device in detail…

The Fiix Elbow Device

This is the front of the device and I like the simplicity of the design.

There’s a screen and three buttons (left to right): Timer button, stop button, and start button.

They made it real easy so anyone can do this by themselves.

The back of the device has a strap that’s made of some sort of neoprene material.

It’s soft and has holes so that my skin breathes when I have it on.

The strap connects to itself with velcro but it’s not the cheap kind of velcro.

Both the strap and device look and feel high quality.

Here’s the underside of the strap.

This is the part that goes on my arm.

And if I move the strap out of the way, you can see the metal pieces that sit on a revolving belt.

These metal pieces scrape the injured tendons to break scar tissue so my tendon heals.

How I Got Golfer’s Elbow

I started doing daily weighted pull ups and this is what started the pain on the inside of my elbow.

Nothing wrong with pull ups but I didn’t give my forearms enough recovery time for the extra volume I was doing.

In hindsight, I think using more of a neutral grip would’ve decreased the stress on my forearms and elbows.

How Does Fiix Elbow Work?

How To Treat Elbow Tendonitis At Home

Golfer’s Elbow Treatment

For Golfer’s elbow I set the Fiix Elbow device on the inside of my elbow with my hand facing up.

I set the timer for 10 minutes and press start and the machine does its job.

The treatment plan calls for scraping three times a week and exercises four times a week for 10 weeks.

On the screen I can see the treatment time remaining, strokes, battery life, and intensity.

After I finish my 10 minutes of scraping on the device it’s time to do the exercises.

Here’s what my forearm looked after the first treatment.

The scraping causes some redness but overall it wasn’t bad at all, just a little bit of soreness.

I can always adjust the strap to increase or reduce the pressure of the metals on my forearm.

I took a screenshot of the what’s in the Fiix Body app above showing a day where I have to use the device and exercise.

At the top, there’s a video showing me how to apply the device on my elbow.

And below that there’s videos showing me how to perform the Golfer’s elbow exercises.

On days where I don’t use the device, I just do the exercises as shown above.

As you can see, the exercises are simple and don’t take a lot of time to do.

What’s more important is being consistent and over the course of the treatment plan that gives you the best outcome.

Tennis Elbow Treatment

I don’t suffer from Tennis elbow but the Fiix Elbow device also works for that condition.

The treatment is basically the same except you’re placing the device on the outside of the forearm (lateral epicondyle) instead of the inside.

Other Golfer’s Elbow Treatments I Tried

Before I got the Fiix Elbow device, I tried several options.

First, I started using the Strong Arm forearm strengthener but my elbow was too flared up to handle the weight so I had to tone it down.

So I bought a Theraband Flexbar which works by eccentrically loading the tendons of the forearm.

Eccentric loading is the same philosophy the Knees Over Toes Guy uses to get people out of knee pain.

It helped to bring down the intensity of the pain but not eliminate it completely.

Gym Modifications

For me the hardest part about dealing with Golfer’s elbow has been learning to rest and modify my workouts.

I’m so used to going in my garage gym and using my equipment without limits but now I have to test out what doesn’t flare up my elbow.

Dumbbell Exercises

I found neutral grip exercises like hammer curls don’t place any stress on my inside elbow.

If I try straight barbell curls or preacher curls it places too much stress on my elbow…

So for now I’m sticking to dumbbells and neutral grip bars like the TGrip barbell.

Pulling Exercises

Since my PRx rack has a straight pull up bar, I use Kensui Swissies for neutral grip pull ups.

Neutral grip is where I feel the least amount of pain (not completely gone but it helps).

Combining neutral grip with my Jerkfit Death Grips lifting straps has helped the most out of all things I’ve tried while working out.

Death Grips have a short rubber strap that wraps around the bar and is kept in place with my hands.

What’s neat about them is that my bodyweight keeps them pinned down so I don’t need to make a fist (my forearm flexors don’t work as hard).

When doing lat pulldowns, landmine rows, or seated cable rows, I use the ultimate row handle’s neutral grip option.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Attacks the root of the pain: Breaks up the scar tissue causing pain and promotes healing
  • Save time: I’m on the Fiix elbow device for 10 mins and do around 5 minutes of exercises from the convenience of my home
  • One time investment: I pay for it once versus paying every time I see a therapist so it saves me money
  • Effective: Has helped to bring down my elbow pain better than anything I’ve tried
  • Portable: It’s small so I can continue my treatment from anywhere

Cons

  • Up front cost: Yes, it’s a big chunk to pay all at once, but in the long run I’d pay more if I was seeing a physical therapist consistently

Now that I’ve gone through the 10 weeks of treatment with the Fiix Elbow device, my elbow feels a whole lot better.

I continue to do the stretching and strengthening exercises on a consistent basis to avoid a flare up but the scraping made a big difference.

Having the ability to do it from home certainly helped me to stay consistent with my treatment.

And the exercises were easy to follow through the app.

Now I’m back to doing pulling exercises without discomfort so my workouts don’t suffer.
