The Recoil S2 Pro is a suspension trainer similar to the TRX, however, it has taken suspension training to a whole new level by adding new features that makes it a cinch to move from one exercise to another and to prevent muscular imbalances.
I have the Recoil S2 Pro version that comes with all accessories included…
It has the suspension trainer, lashing strap, travel bag/door anchor, and the wall/ceiling mount so this is the most expensive option.
Recoil has other options that are less expensive and work just as good.
Let’s check it out!
With more home and garage gyms being built, suspension training has become extremely popular because of its simplicity and proven results.

The Recoil S2 is a suspension trainer that uses straps and gravity to do bodyweight exercises, stretches, and mobility work.
You can hang it from a door, ceiling, pull up bar, tree, beam, or anything that’s stable and can support your body weight.
The instability of the suspension straps make exercises difficult because your body is forced to recruit stabilizing muscles that otherwise wouldn’t be stimulated.
Top Benefits Of The Recoil S2 Suspension Trainer
Portable
Suspension straps and gymnastic rings can easily be folded up, thrown into a bag, and taken with you anywhere.
In the case of the Recoil S2 Pro straps, they retract and can be stored in a small carrying bag that also functions as a door anchor (more about that later on).
The Recoil S2 Pro can also be permanently attached to the ceiling/wall if you own a home gym or studio.
Or it can be wrapped over any pull up bar, beam, or tree, making it the ultimate travel gym.
Endless amount of exercises
When it comes to suspension training exercises and workouts, the options are endless.
You can work out your upper body, lower body, core, and more with these straps.
Scalable
Whether you’re a beginner or advanced, workouts can be scaled to any fitness level.
The closer you are to the anchor point, the more of your body weight you’ll be lifting, so the exercises become harder.
The further away from the anchor point you are, the exercises become easier.
Recoil S2 Pro vs TRX vs Rings
Not it’s time to compare the Recoil S2 Pro vs TRX vs rings.
All of these are good options for suspension training, but there is nothing like the Recoil S2 Pro out there.
Recoil S2 Pro Similarities
- Used for bodyweight training
- High portability so they can be taken anywhere
- Can be anchored down almost anywhere
Recoil S2 Pro Differences
- Recoil mechanism lets you switch from one exercise to the next in seconds (HUGE time saver)
- Recoil mechanism ensures that both straps are always even (this prevents muscular imbalances)
- Recoil mechanism makes it easy to retract the straps and keeps everything tidy when you’re done working out
Best Features Of The Recoil S2 Pro Suspension Trainer
Yes, all the devices mentioned in this post are suspension trainers, but here’s what makes the Recoil S2 Pro is superior to the TRX and gymnastic rings.
Easy Adjustments
The recoil system in the Recoil S2 makes it easy to move from one exercise to the next with the push of a button.
Just push the recoil button and both straps move at the same time.
Even Adjustments
Unlike the TRX and gymnastic rings, the Recoil S2 straps move at the same time and always end up even.
With the TRX and rings, each strap works independently so it’s up to you to manually make sure they are both even.
This becomes time consuming, inefficient, and can lead to muscular imbalances if you train with uneven straps.
No Mess
Once you’re done working out, simply press the recoil button and the straps recoil to the top in a second.
How to Anchor the Recoil S2
I can anchor the Recoil S2 Pro suspension trainer to many surfaces so it makes it very easy to workout virtually anywhere.
The Recoil S2 Pro comes in a travel bag that doubles as a door anchor.
The same shoulder strap used for the bag is used to hang the Recoil S2 from a pull up bar, ceiling, wall, tree, or beam.
Yes, the whole Recoil S2 is in that little bag you see below.
Genius design if you ask me.
Door Set Up
Once you open the bag, the flap has a built in carabiner and a door stop.
Below you can see the flap turned inside out with the carabiner hooked to the Recoil S2.
On the other side of the door, there is a cylindrical rubber door stop that holds the whole system securely in place after you close the door.
And just to make sure nobody opens the door while you’re exercising, they added a “Caution Recoiling” sign on the other side of the door.
Wall Set Up
The wall and ceiling set up uses a mount where you’ll hook up the Recoil S2 directly to it.
The back of the Recoil has a soft rubber pad that prevents wall scratches.
Here’s what the Recoil S2 looks like when you set it up on the wall.
Ceiling Set Up
For the ceiling set up, you’ll be using the lashing strap.
Thread the strap through the anchor bar and secure it in place with one of the carabiners.
Once the lashing strap is securely hanging from the mount, you simply hook the other carabiner to the top of the Recoil S2 and you’re ready to workout.
Pull Up Bar / Beam / Tree Set Up
If you’re setting up the Recoil S2 on a pull up bar, beam, or tree, just wrap the lashing strap around the anchor and you’re good to go.
P.S. Make sure that tree branch you’re using is secure or the fall will hurt.
Stall Bars
Stall bars are another great anchor point for the suspension straps.

Suspension Training Exercises
There are literally hundreds of exercises you can do on suspension trainers.
The further away from the anchor point your belly button is, the easier the exercise is because you’re lifting less of your body weight.
The closer your belly button is to the anchor point the harder the exercises become.
To make the exercises even more difficult, you can slow down the tempo of each exercise (1 second up, 3 seconds down) or strap on a weighted vest to increase the resistance.
Suspension Training Workout
Below you’ll see some sample workouts I’ve done using the Recoil S2 Pro from my garage gym.
Recoil S2 Pro Pros & Cons
Pros
- Easy adjustments: I just press a button and adjust both straps simultaneously to any length, no buckles to mess with
- No mess: Straps recoil back in a second so there’s no loose straps to store, everything goes back into the housing
- Even straps: Straps always end up at the same level even when I pull on one side (the other side follows)
- Quality: The straps are made of seatbelt material that last forever
- Adjustable handles: Make it easy to anchor my feet so they’re secure
- Anchors: With multiple anchor options, I can hang the Recoil S2 anywhere (door, trees, pull up bars, etc)
Cons
- Pricey: Compared to other suspension trainers, it is pricey but it is the best one I’ve used (read below to get a discount)
Recoil S2 Pro Alternatives
Recoil S2
The Recoil S2 version is less expensive than the Pro.
It comes with the lashing strap and suspension trainer but does not include a door mount or wall/ceiling mount.
Rapid Rings
Rapid Rings are ring straps that use a recoil mechanism similar to the Recoil.
Because they have a hook at the top, these are only meant to be used on pull up bars.
You have the option to buy the recoiling straps or the straps and the rings together.

Recoil S2 Pro Suspension Trainer Conclusion
The Recoil S2 Pro is currently the top of the line when it comes to suspension trainers.
As someone who owns both a TRX and gymnastic rings, it is SO MUCH EASIER to just press the recoil button and move from one exercise to the next in a matter of seconds.
Rings and other suspension trainers become tedious because you have to manually adjust one strap at a time and make sure each side is even.
Because the Recoil S2 is a premium product, expect to pay more than other suspension trainers.
But you get what you pay for…
