The Stroops Son Of The Beast is an elastic battle rope that fights back.

This hybrid combo makes it a killer tool I use to train explosiveness and use it as a resistance band as well.

I use with for both upper and lower body exercises making it excellent for full body workouts.

Unboxing

The entire bundle came in one box and wrapped in a tightly sealed plastic bag.

Here’s everything that comes with the Son Of The Beast Pro kit.

I got the 77 lbs resistance bands in orange so there’s two of those (these are also available in black).

It comes with two carabiners, a belt, two anchor straps, and two agility dots.

What Is The Stroops Son Of The Beast?

The Song Of The Beast is a set of elastic bands that combines a battle rope with explosiveness, functional movement, and resistance band training.

Because it’s made out of resistance bands, it pulls me back and it’s lighter than a battle rope so I can still slam it.

I can also use it tied around my waist for resisted broad jumps, skater jumps, sprints, and other types of explosive movements.

Full Body Workout

With the Son Of The Beast bands, I can get a full body workout in several ways.

I can use it as resistance bands for my upper body with the built-in handles…

Use it as a battle rope and slam away in different patterns and this feels a bit like the Inertia Wave because the bands are pulling me while I’m slamming.

Or attach the Power Pull Belt to it for lower body resisted exercises and plyometric movements.

Best Features Of The Stroops Son Of The Beast

Sleeves

Stroops is known for their protective outer sleeves on their resistance bands and they’ve added the same cover to the Son Of The Beast.

I like the sleeve for two reasons: (1) it protects the bands so they last longer and (2) protects me in case the bands snap while I’m using them.

This lets me use the band at full capacity so I can go all out without worrying about damaging them.

Built-In Handles

Each rope comes with a built-in handle on each end.

The handles are sewn into the sleeve and it’s a loop that I can use in several ways…

I can use the bands by myself or with another person holding the opposite end like with the Inertia Wave Duo.

When doing battle rope exercises I like to insert my hand through the handle so it doesn’t fly away if I lose my grip.

Anchor Anywhere

I like that the handles allow me to anchor the Son Of The Beast in many ways and to many things.

Here I have the anchor straps around my upright, connecting to the handle with a carabiner in the middle.

With the anchor straps being long, I can strap them around thick posts, fences, trampolines, trees, etc.

Here I anchored the bands without the long anchor straps.

I just attached the handle to a mag pin with a carabiner.

Or I can thread each band through the handle and anchor it down without using anything else.

This last one is not the most optimal set up but it gets the job done.

Power Pull Belt

I like the Power Pull Belt because it gives me a no-hands way to exercise against resistance.

It looks just like a sled strap but it has an inner adjustable belt with a buckle so it doesn’t slide down my legs.

I’ve used a similar belt with the Zero Sled and they work really good.

With the buckle in front of me, I can use it to simulate reverse sled drags.

I also flip the Power Pull Belt around so that the buckle is behind me…

This is perfect for resisted sprints, explosive movements like broad jumps and high jumps, and forward sled drags.

One of my favorite ways to use the Power Pull Belt and Son Of The Beast with the SledTred for indoor sprints.

Son Of The Beast Pros & Cons

Pros

• Full body workout: I can workout my upper and lower body with one set of bands. Stroops has an entire video collection of exercises here.

• Progressions/regressions: Having resistance allows to progress or regress exercises by just moving close/far from the anchor point

• Minimalist: For those that don’t want a bunch of equipment, this can be used for many exercises

• Outer sleeve: Protects the bands from damage and myself in case the bands ever snap while in use

• Power Pull belt: Buckle maintains the belt on my waist at all times for hands free resistance exercises

• Storage: Easy to fold and store on my wall

Cons

• Price: The 77 lbs pro kit I got is $159 but it can get pricey as you go up in resistance but the value is there with all the exercises I can do

• Space: The bands can stretch up to 30 feet so you’ll need space which may be limited in a garage gym or home gym

The kit I got is priced at $159 and this will vary based on whether you get just the bands or the pro kit and the amount of resistance you select.

I got the pro kit and the 77 lbs resistance bands but bands range from 47 to 150 lbs.

The 47 lbs kit sells for $119 but if you select the 150 lbs pro kit, the price can go up to $199.

It can get a bit pricey as you go up in resistance but the pro kit does offer a lot of value with the vast number of exercises I can do with it.

Son Of The Beast Alternatives

Inertia Wave Strong

I use the Inertia Wave Strong for movements similar to a battle rope but also as resistance bands.

So it kinda works like the Son Of The Beast but the Inertia Wave uses tubes that are made of a different material than bands.

Both products have attachments and anchor points but Son Of The Beast has the inner belt that keeps the belt in place during explosive exercises.

Inertia Wave Duo

The Inertia Wave Duo is specifically for two people to workout together.

Earlier I said that the Son Of The Beast has a handle on each end and that’s exactly how the Inertia Wave Duo is built.

This would be a good alternative for families that workout together or personal trainers who coach group classes.

Downside to it, is that you can’t use it alone.

Hyperwear Hyper Rope Elite

The Hyperwear Hyper Rope Elite is a weighted battle rope (weighs 19 lbs) that doesn’t need to be anchored.

It has a flexible, metal core that gives it weight and is made of premium braided polyester that makes it more durable than battle ropes.

My Experience Using The Stroops Son Of The Beast

I like that I can get a full body workout with the Son Of The Beast and I can take it anywhere.

This is something I can’t do with battle ropes since they mainly target the upper body.

With it being a combination of a battle rope and resistance bands, it keeps my workouts fun.

Some days I’ll just use it as resistance bands, other days I’ll use the Power Pull Belt and do explosive movements or sprints.

Should You Buy The Son Of The Beast?

I see this being very useful for people who like battle ropes for conditioning and resistance bands for strength training.

Stroops does a very good job at combining both products into one.

And I like the addition of the belt for resisted lower body exercises like sprints, sled drags, plyometrics, and more.

If you like versatility without the need for a ton of equipment, the Son Of The Beast delivers.
